I just went to go cut and paste a part of a table from an old site I made to a new page I am making today.

And I found out that it is gone!

It had been on members.aol.com since 1998 - then October 31, poof!

Thanks for the heads up AOL, Thanks for being decent,

Thanks for raping the American people

All those 19.95/month fees and you couldn't even leave people's homepages up?

The same thing happened to me a while back they deleted all of my birthday reminders and everything before the date they said we had to clear them all out. I was NOT a happy girl :td:

Yes I'm sure I have those emails sitting in my aol accounts along with thousands of spam...

i haven't used aol mail in many years.

My main argument is why they felt the need to take them down? Does the space or the bandwidth crush their profit margin?

It is not as if they have to hire manpower or do any work to maintain something completely user created.

the only AOL experience i can remember is when my credit card was hacked and used to get AOL accounts, AOL came to my rescue and refunded all the money about U.S.$240 way back in 2000. it's easy to disprove, we don't have AOL here. (not that I know of)

I stopped using them about 10 years ago, God how I hated them. I remember when someone explained I didn't even need them to go online, and what a browser was. It was at that moment I realized, I had been cruising down the internet highway, on the short bus.

Have you tried going to the Web Archive (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php) and seeing if your old website will pull up? If so, then you'd probably be able to get the code from there, right?

AOL... what a joke they have been. I remember all those CDs we used to get in the mail. Seemed like at least twice / month we'd get those CDs with the "1 month free"... after a while, it seemed like they were getting desperate, because the offers kept getting sweeter and sweeter (but, of course, once we switched, there was no going back).

LOL those cds

wasn't there a man going around with a goal of collecting one million of them? then piling them on aols doorstep?

I was able to get some of the code from archive, but not the images :(

Touche, there was a turning point.

Alas in the 90s had it not been for AOL I'd have gotten less play, particularly from ladies I ordinarily would not have met... I was picking up girls on the Internet before it was fashionable and more of a hush-hush thing to be doing..

But dammit AOL, why did you erase our websites? Why not burn them on a CD and mail them to each customer- oh wait, that part of the budget has probably blown up too much to use anymore...
