As the title says, has anyone built their own ecommerce site to market & sell their domains? If so I would love some advice on the platform you used, pros, cons, etc. A link to your site would be great. Thanks

I have not. However I would think with a yahoo store you could do such. Or just have an ebay type busines.s

I have looked into both of those, but I'm hoping for something that is a bit more customizable. I've also looked at this hosted ecommerce platform: http://www.volusion.com/. It looks pretty nice. I'm hoping to find some people here with first hand experience.

Thanks.

I had a Yahoo store a couple years ago - very expensive and almost no traffic - no automatic inclusion in Yahoo search. May have changed since then but I doubt it.

I sell domains in my eBay store (accentnepal.com) not a particularly good market but I do sell some. Disadvantages - it takes a while to set up each domain, some customers know little about domains, I have heard that mid range domains do not sell well, (I have no experience there). Advantages - sometimes things sell on ebay that don't sell elsewhere, you can put other stuff in the store as well, not just domains. Cost $16 per month, plus unlimited listings at 5 - 11 cents each, plus 3 to 10 percent commission if it sells.

I have a private website for my jewelry business using Zen Cart - which is free. It takes quite a while to set up unless you are familar with PHP, but I got it working fine. Disadvantages - too complicated. Advantages - free, Paypal intergrated.

(One more) I also have a website just plugging domains that I have for sale. (BNDN.com) No cart, just an email address (in a gif to prevent spam). It is only a few weeks old, the funny thing is that the only response that I have had so far was from a guy who wanted to buy the domain I have the website on! With a list of 50 names it seemed too much trouble to enter each into a shopping cart, so they are just out there. Paypal has "buttons" - supposedly a simple way to sell (including mobile). I should look into that.

Do you park your names using the script as well?

Thanks for all of the info in your post. Reps +. I'm building a nice inventory of niche market domains and I will be advertising my store directly to my niche to drive traffic to it.

Try http://www.domainportfolio.us - a simple, free portfolio script.

Do you mean an ecommerce site purely for selling your domains or something like below where you can sell products online using your domains ?

A couple more things that I forgot to include:

Zen cart, and I expect other PHP scripts, are not good for SEO. I have a series of pages that front for the cart - the home page and one for each category, both because I can work better with HTML and for search engine food. Seems to work fine.

Also on eBay you get too many no-pays, although the store is better than auctions for that. The no-pays on my website seem to be the ones who want to send a check rather than use paypal.

Thanks again all, good stuff.

To clarify - I'm after an ecommerce platform purely for selling my domains.
