Not meant to scare you, but I just read in another forum about eNom taking a
domain name away from one of its clients because it bore a term resembling 1
of their trademarks. It was subsequently resolved, but it sure caused a lot of
unnecessary problems for all parties concerned.

Thread in question:

If you think eNom or any registrar can't do that, make sure you've read your
registration agreement.

I'd also like to ask enom about all of the premium .us domains they are holding onto...

Is it too much to ask for there to be a big successful registrar that ISN'T involved in underhanded crap? Seriously, didn't know enom could trademark a combination of 4 letters regardless of where they appear. I wonder if they've tried going after Venom.com and Phenom.com?

Potentially, yes.

Anyone here interested in coordinating with other domainers to create a kind
of co-op registrar?

Maybe, though I never seem to have large or consistent periods of free time anymore, or money to spend. :)

I just posted a response to eNom's nametaking parade on my blog too. The ironic part is that I actually am seemingly one of the few that stood up for GoDaddy taking a domain name offline that had a site compromising several MySpace accounts. As much as I think they could have handled that better, I thought that was a reasonable thing for them to do. If you look at what eNom's doing in comparison, it's obvious the difference between a registrar maybe in too much of a "We Must Police the Internets!" vs. a registrar with obviously ulterior motives to their actions and going WAY out of bounds.

The worst part of it is that the people they are doing it to are the very people putting their trust into eNom as paying customers, and not only is there a slippery slope of "what other TM-infringing names will they try to take?", but also "how else are they going to use their customers' trust and willingness to register domains or do anything else on eNom against them?" Considering all the suspect things they've done anyways now and in the past, maybe ICANN needs to take a closer look at eNom and take some action. Sometimes you get the feeling that ICANN just sits and twiddles its thumbs...RegisterFly did get handled eventually...sort of. Not very well IMO, and I'm VERY glad I never fel into RF's "deals" lulling so many people into their trap.
