.mobi Anyone contemplating putting AdSense ads on .mobi sites?

Sure it's not compliant... But then again, they aren't going to be enforcing for several months. It's crossed my mind -- frustrated with how unrelated Admob ads are to my site. I'm getting decent CTR, but I'd rather have ads on my site related to what my site is about, something which isn't possible at the moment with the current Admob selection.

edit: I also have some very niche domain names such as quercetin.mobi (about 100 like that), which could probably make some decent money if used via adsense, granted the shear amount of money people are paying for quercetin related keywords.

I feel your pain with the completely unrelated and irrelevant Admob links. I'm glad that their service is available to our sites. I imagine we all get frustrated deleting the ads we don't want 1 by painful 1. I'm sure they're working on a better interface though and look forward to seeing what they can come up with to satisfy our thirst for maximum profit.

As tempting as utilizing adsense may be (and yes, it is to me)...I feel we're sending a wrong message by doing this. Most of us here have bought into the "need for a better mobile experience" that dot mobi is designed to give users. If we utilize non compliant pages, what message does that send? In the beginning stages like we're in, I believe we need to minimize non-compliant sites and links and maximize .mobi features, such as quick, easy content. I know that when utilizing links, with so few sites live at this point, it's not always possible. My newest site will have a non compliant link in it, but I had no choice. Adsense is a choice.

Just My Opinion! B-)

Well said. Looking at your sites, I know Admob isn't currently fulfilling your needs either. And yes, I really don't know how complicated it would be to have to code 'no ads below this price' into the program. It frustrates me immensely not only that ads being displayed are irrelevant to my site, but that some of the ads are paying 1/100th of what relevant, content-targeted Adsense ones would -- and likely with higher CTR granted they'd be on target.

Higher Principles

Yes

I put the higher principles in mind first.. and throughout..

What are the higher principles here?

Well certainly we want .mobi to represent content that is viewable on the lowest end world mobile phone..

But I was under the impression that the adsense just wouldn't show up on the low end phones or something.. maybe the device detect on the .mobi is a good technological developing skill to garner..

But I am an Iframer web developer.. so I am pulling personally for the Iframe tag to be used.. it can be valuable like Amazon.com affiliate ads or such.. well I'd go along with the higher principle internet freedom side of the fence here.. I don't know what it is yet.. that's all I know.. so need to ascertain this futher, perhaps .. if it's meant to be..
