I'd heard about it, but had the "it can't happen to me" attitude

well... confictor attaches itself to a microsoft file in the system, and I use linux, so.....no real worries here. just one more advantage to linux, plus if anything did happen, I can just download a new, FREE, os and be on my way.

That should assuage some fears; it's not any more dangerous than other so called hacks and vulnerabilities out there. Be smart about it, protect yourself, and you'll do fine. In this day and age, monitor your finances regardless; it's just as easy for someone to break into a poorly secured company as it is for them to hack your home PC in some cases.

Much of this is what happens when you have a sensationalist media. Each new worm is the end of the internet as we know it...
