"die" in German is actually a one of the four grammatical cases and genders.
This article on Wikipedia explains it pretty well. It's less of a word and used in conjunction with other words.

Jim,

Have a look at: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Die

"Die" may refer to:

1. the
2. which
3. who
4. that
5. this
6. these

Television is a feminine noun in German and die is the feminine 'definite article' (the):
die Television=die.TV=the television

quite catchy. On the downside would anyone search for 'the tv' in German, and the 'real' word for tv is 'das Fernsehen'.

Jim, I have Dies.tv which I believe has only one translation which is This.tv in German. Somebody can correct me if I am wrong but I think Die has a number of translations depending on how it is strucured in a sentence and can mean: the, that, which, who, this one.

I do not think dies.tv is correct German and people may not even know what you mean.
diese, diesem, diesen, dieses, dieser are the possible forms of dies/.
Dies with a noun behind is only being used for special meanings.
Dies has some meanings as a noun as well, but that does not matter for this situation.Forget dies.tv /useless(I think)
Die.tv is great in spite of the fact that Germans use Fernsehen much more than tv. Should have close to the same relative value as this.tv

diese, diesem, diesen, dieses, dieser are the possible forms of dies/,but as far as I know dies is never used with a noun behind it.

Thanks, appreciate your feedback. I have already been given the same info by another member. Just goes to show how easy it is to mis-interperet something when it is not in your first language.
