So anybody regged chrome plated :hehe: domains or is it a trademark.

A casual search shows several chrome related domains snapped on sept 1 itself while the launch seems to be on 3rd.

Seems google seems to be going the whole hog on this one with a lot of features like "sandboxing" i.e. an independent tab can be closed if it turns rogue, powerful anti-pishing features and the latest java engine etc., etc.,

Knowing google it would be short on bells and whistles and more on features it seems.

So show your chrome domains :xf.love:

Well you only need to ask the 3 TM rules. (1) Is it registered in bad faith, (2) Is it traded/targeted on the term Google chrome, (3) Do you plan on reselling it at a mark up because of Google, or trying to prevent them from owning it by extorting them.

I think some of these examples above have all three catagories covered here, so no it is not a good idea. The guy with Chrome Plater.com on the other hand has absolutely nothing to fear, he owned this before Google Chrome was even born, and it is purely Generic, and the business would be ,quite obviously, chrome plating. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Sudoku is a Japanese registered TM only.

http://www.nikoli.co.jp/en/puzzles/sudoku/index_text.htm

Of course I don't claim any innocence in my domaining but certainly this thread highlights the serious problems with our industries reputation.

I doubt Labrocca intentionally regged this domain as a TM infringing domain as most everyone else here is with "Chrome".

I did register it just last year and I had assumed that Sudoku was like solitaire and the tile of a game played which in America that's exactly what it appears to be now.

How many of these chrome names listed here will be developed by the registrants into viable sites? How many will just end up being resold or parked?

I will admit I looked for the forum chrome names. I personally develop forums though and have always successfully created fan sites which in many ways are protected or at the least provide a legitimate service that the company doesn't mind. Most TM enforcements are related to parking. Someone should try to keep score for a year how many UDRP's were for parked domains.

I didn't want anything with Google in it and wanted to know what people thought so I got the 2 names I wanted with review/s on the end. Oh Well, They're my problem now :D

What about the fact that this is supposedly open source? does that come into play at all?

in my opinion trademark problem there will be only with chromebrowser

because crome it' a common noun http://www.thefreedictionary.com/chrome

where is the problem with chromeblog?
??????

What about Apple for Apple.com? Or, could you dev. a page called AppleBlog.com and not get into trouble? Only if you don't trade off the Apple name, and maybe if your are promoting the heck out of them they might turn a blind eye. But, if they believe you are diluting their TM or tarnishing their image with a crappy orange and yellow blog page, for example, which they may think surfers will confuse as being Apple's incarnation, then they might have something to say.

But really, why bother when there are so, so many legit generics out there to buy? It's really not a good business plan, or at the least a risky one.

Open source just relates to the software.... that has little to do with protecting a TM.

I will not be buying any....another dodgy fad IMO

Actually the most desirable name chrome dot com is a generic website dealing in automotive products and regged in 1994.

While opinions might differ on squatting, what should the owners of those domains regged prior to google's browser launch do?

Hand over the domains ? :-/

e.g.
ichrome regged in 2002.
echrome regged in 2003

It's how you use them that makes the difference ;)

No, because I have absolutely zero interest in developing a domain related to a web browser. That and... are you all serious? And as far as the end user investment... why would anyone want to buy a possible TM infringement domain? Maybe you should all contact the person who bought Toyota.me?

Well...I might but I don't think I would brag about it on a public forum.

well, after further research the good news is that Google hasn't trademarked the name Chrome per the government registry according to public available records. so i'm going to roll the dice with this one and continue further with development of my chrome domain. unless it's a site "hatin'" on their product i think google will be hands off. it might be a passing fad, but at $5.99 registration and hosting on an existing shared account i think it's worth a stab. :red:

SurfChrome.com?

Not meaning to be offensive, but that is really an unintelligent move...... AND you are killing domaining and legit domainer's income by regging and developing these TM domains. Just b/c the TM is not registered yet, it does not mean they can't claim it. Chrome was all over CNN yesterday and everywhere else, so they have recognition now and can claim common law trademark even if they did not file for a trademark. So you lose anyway.

I agree with Andrew at DomainNameWire.com that all of us should start asking parking co's to close accounts of folks with domains like these, ask the registrars to stop auctioning these domains, give hell to anyone who registers TM domains, and close every thread on NamePros and DNF where someone is trying to sell a TM domain

This crap makes me mad b/c you and other TM infringers are taking money out of my pocket.

Folks.... we must wake up and protect our interests or G and Y will shut off the money spigot for everyone.

Going out and registering domains related to Google Chrome is the epitome of lazy domaining. Don't do it, guys.

Aside from it being unethical and possibly illegal, it's a flat-out waste of money.
