I was thinking of registering a few generic keyword domains with a 2 after them, just wondering if any one sees any point in that or would it be a waste of money. I just saw over on dnjournal that someone paid 15k (US) for bubble2.com so was kinda thinking along the same lines...

ie.:

carpets2.com
travel2.com
business2.com
apartments2.com

etc etc... are these type of names a waste of time/money?

Cheers,
A.

I would say those are fairly good investments, as long as the keyword is not obscure. Something like hockey2.com works, and it is a developed ecommerce hockey store.

I'd also like to know other member's opinions. It is quite an interesting question.

Does anybody have any REAL results with that kind of aproach?

Good question Fixxation.

Instead of using 2 at the end alone, try using 2 or 4 at the begining of the keywords you are going to try. This will give an attractive meaning.

2mail - To Mail

2shop - To shop

2find - To find

4friends - For friends

4music - For Music

4free - For Free

:bingo:

it makes sense if the "N" behind the name is tying into the domain name itself. if it's a senseless naming convention then the chances are that you won't be driving much traffic. example: fly2 makes sense versus buy2 doesn't make as much sense, to me anyways. i think you get my point, as long as the number ties into the positioning and naming convention of the domain i would say its a good investment.

You need to take the reported sales with a pinch of salt. Crazy sales are not bound to repeat often.
For example somebody purchased Brazilian-Transsexuals.info for $1,800 about one year ago (http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/domainsales/2005/domainsales01_10_06.htm). Unless I am missing something it's another case of an end user paying ridiculous amounts for a domain just because they want it.

Saying that domains with numbers will often have limited value no matter how 'generic' they are.
In English 2 or 4 are meaningful digits (eg. mail2web.com) but you still need to choose wisely. I think there is more value and selling potential in a decent 2-worder domain, and there are plenty available.

I think that ordering names like that could be a great invesment. You wil still get great SEO from it, if you decide to develop it. So id say go for ti.
