Any good video making softwares?

Ok so I love making home videos and I like editing them,u know,adding cool effects to the videos and all and stuff like. However, I am unable to find any free video editing software that I can download from the net on my windows xp. And let me warn you,please do not recommend windows movie maker!

thanks...but this isnt exactly what I was looking for. It doesnt even imports windows media files.

The best I've tried is Sony Vegas. It's not free though, but it allows you to try the software for 30 days (or so). If you like it, you can always buy it. It's got a whole bunch of features and it's used by many professionals. It supports all kinds of extensions and you can even use images like .png that's partly transparent, while playing a video in the background.

sony vegas I agree with, very user friendly, easy to use, some great effects for it.
