Hey all,

I heard the news yesterday that scientists have found a possibly earth-like planet called Gliese 581C. Maybe it's "another Earth" !

I thought AnotherEarth.com be a good site that lists all of the earthlike planets found so far and reasons for why we need to keep looking.

581c.com would have been a great choice for the time being. then you need to sit tight and wait til they decide to move off the discovery name and name it something more conventional and if NASA forgets to reg the .com, then you have a real winner.

So, the real question is: What will the planet be named in the end? Planet...Namepros?

I like your development idea though I don't see much of a commercial market for the name.

Side rant on the whole "other earth" article. It's really quite a stretch to compare that planet to ours. Any life there would be simple, microscopic life not complex life. Without a star like ours there's not gonna be complex life. Plus, I saw no mention of a moon without which there'd be no life on Earth. And there's many other essential factors that planet lacks. Complex life in the universe is not as probable as some people want to believe.

The way I see it, no matter what they name the planet, when we find another vegetated, livible, vacant planet.. we will be calling it Another Earth.. It is out there, we just gotta keep looking.
I do agree that their are many, complex factors that contibute to life even being possible here on Earth but some of those factors could be different elsewhere.. almost anything is possible when dealing with the .. unknown expanse of the universe..
