Still new, but with 35 years of Financial expertise, I am dismayed at the incredible difficulties involved in buying and selling names. Who invented this incredibly cumbersome way of doing business.

We all have bought all kinds of items from Amazon, Walmart Online, Alibaba, etc with ease and within seconds.

Imagine if Amazon had a domain section... you would search for a name. You would immediately see if it is available from Amazon Registrar or if it was owned and for sale by someone. You could buy it in One-Click and it would be yours.

You would immediately pay for it with your credit card.... no escrow,no waiting for Paypal, no nonsense. I would immediately get an e-mail from Amazon telling me it's sold and your money, less 10% commission would be in my account...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
GoDaddyGoDaddy
The other day, I registered a domain at NameSilo.com, listed it for sale on their marketplace with a low BIN, contacted a couple potential buyers in the niche, and it sold within the hour.
The domain is instantly moved to their account, but NameSilo said I have to wait 7 days to get the money, which I don't mind. I think if the buyer uses certain payment methods, you can receive payment the same day.
You can only list names that are registered at NameSilo, but it's the best experience I've had so far, so I might start transferring all mine there over time.

Obviously, you did not read the post... Godaddy is not in Amazon stature, nor class. I am writing about my observations and a little bit of a wish list.

I sold my house in less time than it takes to sell a crappy $10 domain on Sedo.

This ain't real estate, it's play money. Just because it is the way it is does not mean it is a good system. When you buy a domain for $100 and sell it to a enduser for $1000, you sold a name, not a house, Real Estate......sheesh.

Godaddy is the largest registrar with the largest market place. They've consolidated several large portfolios and aftermarkets so when your shopping at afternic or half a dozen other properties, your shopping inventory from Godaddy.

They offer everything on your wish list. Sometimes the best solution is the one you have.

"Crappy" being the keyword here. Also, min commission on SEDO is $60.

It's only a matter of time before an Internet giant makes a bid for gd if domain names are the future but as a rule Internet giants are buying up the latest tech start ups and adding them to their huge websites so that their users don't ever need to leave their huge website as everything will be on it etc and thus usernames will be more valuable than domain names in time

Yes, real estate.... nothing "sheesh" about it.

The only "sheesh" is you not being able to see it.

Virtual real estate. Even if we use your $10 example... someone bought virtual real estate for $10 and sold it for $1000 to someone who wanted to develop that real esate. (website) - Outside of your example, domains are sold on a weekly basis that make the average house price look like peanuts. So, yes.... real estate!

I do concur with the OP, it would be nice to have a second giant in the business similar to godaddy. The place where Amazon would excel at is taking payment. Amazon has all the info it needs on clients and in the end would be a more secure way to sell domains then GoDaddy.

I know lots of people who do not have godaddy accounts but I would really have to think to find someone without an Amazon account. I think that is what the OP is trying to say.

Amazon is a globalist company, and they have destroyed a lot of retail businesses. I hope they won't get involved in the domain name industry. I for one wouldn't use them.

You are absolutely correct, they have managed to squeeze out a lot of businesses who may or may not have had a solid foundation.

On the other hand it has been a tremendous vessel of opportunity for regular folks to bring their wares to millions of people with minimal to no fraud. Their review system is second to none in the world.

Amazon is like a double edged knife....

Use it properly and it's a great tool... use it improperly and be prepared to get hurt.

So you are unable to connect the dots between vacant land & a domain name?

You are unable to connect the dots between a structure being built on vaccant lant & a website being build on a domain name?

I would assume you have never owned a website or built your own website then either?
