Seems to be a protective registration considering the universal use if the keyword alphabet.
If Google was changing the name of the search engine to alphabet or YouTube to alphabet and using any one of these nTLDs....I would then say there is something to it. Right now however, it's a cover page to a holding company that few will ever visit after the news is done.
No net gain for anyone aside from the registries who propagate this news an those complainers who are intelligent enough to get out of mentioned extensions while the iron is hot.
