Anyone know of something? The reason is that recently PayPerPost, which I use on my blog, http://apexad.net to make sponsored posts started requiring that you have good Alexa rankings.

I've done a little bit of research on it, and one thing it says is that you should have alexa installed on your own computer as you most likely visit your own site fairly often.

However, Alexa Toolbar doesn't seem to work in IE 7, and in Firefox I got the SearchStatus extension, but I don't know if that is actually sending data to Alexa or just pulling my rank.

The alexa toolbar does sometimes work on IE7, I've been using it for a few weeks but a few days ago it crashed and was deleted by onecare because it said that it contained a trojan downloader..... I tried downloading the toolbar again and immediately onecare said it had the trojan downloader again...

No idea really what's going on

Any company that says you should rely on Alexa rankings should be taken with a large grain of salt. It is so darn easy to manipulate Alexa rankings.

I also saw another stat last week that shows that people are in droves removing alexa toolbars from their systems - no doubt some of that as people upgrade their IE.

I wouldn't put alexa on my computers if they paid me to do it.

whitebark,

PayPerPost is using Page Rank as well, and most companies simply put 'Any Score' for alexa rating. I am sure it is some that don't really know exactly what it is that put foolish numbers like 100,000 and some even have 10,000 (yet most of those only have Page Rank 1-4 set along with that).
