You know, with all the problems airlines have been having, you'd think the would show just a little more customer courtesy. Now granted, i'm sure this man might have picked the wrong time to do his prayers, but to boot him off the plane afterwards?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24191236/?GT1=42003

The Orthodox Jewish man, who wore a full beard, a black hat and a long black coat, stood near the lavatories and began saying his prayers while the United Airlines jet was being boarded at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday night, fellow passenger Ori Brafman said.......

........When the man finally stopped praying, he explained that he couldn't interrupt his religious ritual and wasn't trying to be rude. But the attendants summoned a guard to remove him, said Brafman, a writer who had been visiting New York to talk to publishers..........

Alright, here's the thing...

imo, he was praying as pple were boarding, not as the plane was taxing...
his friends explained to the attendants it would only be two minuets
the man explained the situation to the flight attendants....

but to remove him from the plane afterwards???? isn't that being a tad bit extreme?

my god, it seems like the only alternative airlines have these days is to remove you if theres something 'different' about you.

I understand airline rules and stuff, but they could have fined him or they could have used their common sense and just let it go.

i dread the thought of flying nowadays because it's not fun anymore. You practically have to arrive at the airport 4 hours before the flight leaves, good luck if you have luggage, and maybe you'll arrive at your destination...

besides, with all the bad luck airlines have been having these days, they need somebody to pray for them :|

what they don't understand is freedom of religion/belief

praying should be a private thing, and people who pray in public for all to see how 'holy' they are ,are known as pharisees.

it's their right...just as it is yours NOT to pray in public. i mean, i don't think you would want to be forced to pray in public....so i don't think devout people should be forced not to pray in public...

all i'm saying is that there was probably better ways this situation could have been taken care of besides kicking the guy off the plane.

i mean seriously, you've got airlines struggling to make it, canceling hundreds of flights....and then they make the news for kicking a guy off the plane for praying.

I gotta hand it to them, that's some PR!!!!

BU BYE!

Bottom line, it has nothing to do with his "praying"
so you can get off that band wagon!

When flight attendants urged the man, who was carrying a religious book, to take his seat, he ignored them, Brafman said.
He "ignored" policy and procedure AND the attendant!

flights cannot depart if all passengers are not in their seats, which risks a delay, and it is important that passengers listen to the instructions of the flight crew.

Of course people only focus on the "religion" aspect
and that's what they run with...just read the comments
in the thread...the OBVIOUS was not stated
This guy broke the rules!!! Plain and simple!

He shouldn't have started praying when there wasn't
time to do so....and he shouldn't be holding up a plane
to do so...
I'm all for freedom of religion, and peoples beliefs etc,
but not when it infringes on my saftey, or is a blatant
disrespect of the rules!

I'm sure they though that he was a risk for public safety and not just someone to pick on.

from my understanding he was praying while pple were boarding, not while the plane was moving.

well then,

i guess the guards should have picked him up and thrown him off the plane while he was praying....not when everything was said and done.

A passenger who left his seat to pray in the back of a plane before it took off, ignoring flight attendants' orders to return, was removed by an airport security guard

Rules are in place for a reason....With all the "hype" around planes,
when they have a passenger that "ignores" the attendants AND THE RULES...then yes get him off the plane!

again, this is MY opinion!

it's no wonder people hate flying.....

i'm looking at this from a business standpoint. when you are an industry that is struggling, i guess you should try to be more accommodating to customer's needs.

It reminds me of this one episode of Kitchen Nightmares, where you had this struggling restaurant that couldn't make ends meet...well, they would throw out customers if they complained that they were waiting too long to get their food.

i guess airlines have the right to say, 'our way or the highway' but that's not going to win points with the public, is it?

good point you got there, so I see some religions restrict them from praying in public while if you're really in need you can suppress praying to the one who can save you, and you can't be in private, you just pray out loud, matter of life and death.

this happened to us in the hospital too before many years ago, we're praying in the room where my sister's husband is (he's already dying) and the doctor quietly , politely step up to us and said "could you pls pray in private, this is a hospital" so we prayed inside the car.

WOW! i can't imagine pple at a hospital telling you NOT TO PRAY in a room with a patient...

i mean, unless it was against the will of the patient...

by especially in a life/death situation, you'd think the patient wouldn't mind

that's the very time prayer is needed because we need to talk to the Healer, and we're restricted to our car to pray. :( yeah life and death situation there for the machine connected to my sister's husband suddenly went tooot (straight line) i don't know what you call that thing.. so we got to pray, well just standing of course, no kneeling, nothing like that, and whisper is enough for us.

well most doctors that we came across don't believe such things..

oops typo, i mean sister's husband, wife's husband, that could be me. well the tension already worn out from me, it's many years ago like 5 or 6 years ago. so i see not only airlines, I think doctors in our place are bothered by prayer because they can't admit that their knowledge/wisdom came from God and it has an end, while God's knowledge, power and wisdom are infinitely unlimited. proud they are.
