Fart Grounds Plane In Nashville

Flatulence brought 99 passengers on an American Airlines flight to an unscheduled visit to Nashville early Monday morning.

American Flight 1053, from Washington Reagan National Airport and bound for Dallas/Fort Worth, made an emergency landing here after passengers reported smelling struck matches, said Lynne Lowrance, a spokeswoman for the Nashville International Airport Authority.

I'm not sure which is the worst... the inaccurate news headline, the excessive law enforcement response, or the sheer stupidity of the woman.

Except that the flatulence did not cause the plane to ground. An incompetent woman breaking a long standing law by lighting a match on board the plane (I believe it has been illegal to light a match on a plane since smoking was completely banned), combined with post-9/11 hype caused the plane to land early. (However, we all *should* know that "news" is an entertainment business, and the "clever" headline is good marketing...)

Well, apparently she lit the matches to dissipate the gas of her flatulence, hence the headline. I think the response was excessive myself.

Certainly seems incredible.. I'm wondering about her friends and family.. Thank God for her she wasn't identified in the news.
