I dont meant to sound rude - but your still not answering my question. Why ".mobi is the only way to go mobile" (assuming your "new" to the game).

.mobi has almost zero consumer recognition and you clearly risk traffic bleed - and what happens when mobile sites become a thing of the past (and you know they will, soon).

I agree, mobile sites will soon be a thing of the past as more powerful devices come by which can easily load .com sites.....even me comparitively primitive nokia 5700 phone can easily go to .coms......

Hammer. Head. Nail. :yell:
Meanwhile, mTLD continues to sit on literally 1,000's upon 1,000's of undeveloped premium / generic "dot Mobey" domains ... :guilty:

Assume you have 0 domain names in your portfolio. If you want to make a mobile only site, how would you do it? You cannot use m. or a mobile.keyword.com because you do not have one. You would have to obtain a .mobi correct? Why would someone wanting a mobile site go through the trouble of getting a traditional web extention?

One cannot make the assumption that the current players of today will reign supreme in the future. In 10-15 years the pc may be an after thought and mobile could be the go to :) Seems far off but think of the mid 90s when .coms were a dime a dozen. Many millionaires have since been created because of their vision!

I've tried .com via my iphone dudes. It's a joke :hehe:

It would not be visionary to voluntarily build something new out on an "dot Mobey" solely ... it would, at the end of the day, be business suicide in relying on such an long, awkward, and unprofessional domain name (with little or no support in its promotion and awareness from mTLD)! :o :imho:

Additionally, as I've been stating since '06 ... the branding of the long, two syllabled, and extremely awkward "dot Mobey" is and will continue to be highly problematic and essentially a branding NIGHTMARE! :guilty: :imho:
This is one of my main reasons for not believing in .mobi, which genius came up with the idea to have an extension aimed at mobiles be 4 letters long? I know ICANN wouldnt allow a 1 or 2 letter extension but they could have come up with something 3 letters long surely? That 1 letter can make a large difference on a mobile phone IMO and, as I have stated many times, no extension longer then 3 letters has had any success.

I have never been a .MOBI fan. To me the extension always seemed awkward.

All internet users have at least heard of COM/NET/ORG, but I have had people laugh when I have brought up .MOBI. They didn't think it could be a real extension.

With that being said, I still think Air.mobi was solid for what you paid for it.

Hilarious! It takes me a nanosecond to type the letter "i" in .mobi. As if .mob would have been so much easier  No the extra letter does'nt make a bit of difference on a mobile.

Still takes longer then 3 letters and even if there isnt a speed difference all 4 letter or longer extensions feel awkward.

I don't understand what you mean by "feel awkward"?

Smartphones have favorites so you really only have to type the address one time. In fact, the iphone actually saves the site itself so I just touch the safari icon and then touch the site I want. It actually picks up where you left off the last time you were on a specific site. Pretty cool!

thought this thread would be dead by now. LOL its freaking alive.
why do you guys derive pleasure from telling .mobi investors how bad their investment is? after all its not clear yet. me personally i see myself as a domain investor so i try to do the same as for the stockmarket i diversify as much as i can, i have many .coms a bunch of .ins, nets, de's, us, me's and now 2 .mobis. personally i am not very fond of the .mobi extension but well if it takes off i won't look stupid like all domainers that only dis .mobi for whatever reason they might have (jealousy, fear, none at all,...).

There are some sick people in the world ... and then there are others who just want to try to help their fellow domainers in not flushing good money down the drain with an long, awkward and entirely unnecessary domain name extension(s)! For my part at least, I apologize for any slight digress here in your thread ... though, along with others posting, if it saved even a few $x+ then it's all good, IMHO. :xf.love:

See you soon, and Good Luck with your domains.

^ Above "stats" are fictional, and entirely misleading! :| :imho:

According to Registrar Stats©, there are only 923,518 "dot Mobey" domains registered ... and, of course, very VERY very few of these are actually developed as stand-alone sites -and- it's the only extension showing consistent Net Losses in registrations (domains being Removed) in the zone file day-after-day (with, presumably, the majority of junk drops still to come and en masse), IMHO. :guilty:

There are 301,000 results for site:nokia.mobi alone.

That would, for hypothetical purposes, count as ONE (1) "dot Mobey" ... indexed result (with all of its related "pages" also being included in your search parameter) ... that's why it's misleading, particularly in the context of your reply to Scarecrow above, IMHO. :gl:
PS. Here is the real developed Nokia Mobile™ website:

Thanks for understanding.
