.mobi has almost zero consumer recognition and you clearly risk traffic bleed - and what happens when mobile sites become a thing of the past (and you know they will, soon).

I agree, mobile sites will soon be a thing of the past as more powerful devices come by which can easily load .com sites.....even me comparitively primitive nokia 5700 phone can easily go to .coms......

Meanwhile, mTLD continues to sit on literally 1,000's upon 1,000's of undeveloped premium / generic "dot Mobey" domains ...

Assume you have 0 domain names in your portfolio. If you want to make a mobile only site, how would you do it? You cannot use m. or a mobile.keyword.com because you do not have one. You would have to obtain a .mobi correct? Why would someone wanting a mobile site go through the trouble of getting a traditional web extention?Spade said:I dont meant to sound rude - but your still not answering my question. This is one of my main reasons for not believing in .mobi, which genius came up with the idea to have an extension aimed at mobiles be 4 letters long? I know ICANN wouldnt allow a 1 or 2 letter extension but they could have come up with something 3 letters long surely? That 1 letter can make a large difference on a mobile phone IMO and, as I have stated many times, no extension longer then 3 letters has had any success.Jeff said:Additionally, as I've been stating since '06 ... the branding of the long, two syllabled, and extremely awkward "dot Mobey" is and will continue to be highly problematic and essentially a branding NIGHTMARE!:imho:
Hilarious! It takes me a nanosecond to type the letter "i" in .mobi. As if .mob would have been so much easier  No the extra letter does'nt make a bit of difference on a mobile.d3N said:This is one of my main reasons for not believing in .mobi, which genius came up with the idea to have an extension aimed at mobiles be 4 letters long? Still takes longer then 3 letters and even if there isnt a speed difference all 4 letter or longer extensions feel awkward.keithmt said:Hilarious! I don't understand what you mean by "feel awkward"?d3N said:Still takes longer then 3 letters and even if there isnt a speed difference all 4 letter or longer extensions feel awkward.
bmugford said:All internet users have at least heard of COM/NET/ORG, but I have had people laugh when I have brought up .MOBI. They didn't think it could be a real extension.

There are 301,000 results for site:nokia.mobi alone.Jeff said:^ Above "stats" are fictional, and entirely misleading!:imho:
According to Registrar Stats©, there are only 923,518 "dot Mobey" domains registered ... and, of course, very VERY very few of these are actually developed as stand-alone sites -and- it's the only extension showing consistent Net Losses in registrations (domains being Removed) in the zone file day-after-day (with, presumably, the majority of junk drops still to come and en masse), IMHO.
Caveat emptor, friends!

http://nokia.nameJeff said:That would, for hypothetical purposes, count as ONE (1) "dot Mobey" indexed result (with all of its related "pages" also being counted in your search parameter) ... that's why it's misleading, particularly in the context of your reply to Scarecrow above, IMHO. :gl:
