Agreed to buy a domain; what to do now?

I recently made an offer for a domain by e-mailing the owner directly, and he's accepted. The sale price will be around $200. For this kind of sum, what's the normal way to proceed?

Escrow if you're feeling un-easy.

If not, Paypal. Get MSN/AIM address if possible to discuss etc. (Be sure to check background info on seller throughly.)

Its normal for you to pay, then domain to be pushed (Like a sales assistant and customer) but if you're not comfortable with that, ask for 1/2 first 1/2 after.

But beware, going for paypal; support is terrible!

Ta-ra.

Thanks Flubber.

The $50 escrow fee from Sedo seems a little high for this level of transaction; are there any reputable but cheaper alternatives?

Paypal is your cheapest bet. It not, I think escrow.com fees should be less than Sedo's. It just depends how trustworthy the other party is. Is the seller a member of DNOA or NamePros? If so, paypal probably will be fine for the transaction.

I would use Paypal, just check the seller!

Not as far as I know.

Have paid all up front. Seems okay so far. Nameservers and whois have been updated. Just waiting for the transfer...

I've never had any problems with PayPal customer service, though their scripts sometimes go apes*it and mess things up in any number of different ways. Their customer service reps have always been friendly and as helpful as they're allowed to be, in my case anyways. :D

Transfer completed without any problems. I was just starting to think that I must be paranoid to have any concerns at all, but then I found a thread elsewhere about someone getting ripped off. For a larger sum of money (anything >$400), I think I'll use an escrow service in future.
