I'm a non-Us citizen with a USA bank account. I want to receive payment with ACH.
How do I set the payment method? I tried to use a USA address and in the last step Afternic asks me to fill the W9 form.
Although it tells me:

If you are a US person (see definitions on the IRS site) select the "US Person" tab to electronically submit the W-9 form.

If you are not a US person, select the "Non US person" tab and follow the instructions there.

But there's no "Non US person" there.

Ran into something similar. A few things that might help:

If the "Non US Person" tab isn't showing up, try switching your browser's region/language settings to English (US) some payment portals hide tabs based on detected locale, which is a known quirk with a few marketplace platforms.

If that doesn't surface it, the workaround is usually filling out a W-8BEN instead of a W-9 (W-9 is specifically for US persons/entities; W-8BEN is the standard form for non-US individuals receiving US-sourced income). Worth reaching out to Afternic support directly and asking them to manually send you the W-8BEN flow if the UI isn't giving you the option this is a common enough situation that support should have a process for it.

Also worth double-checking with your bank whether they need anything special on their end to receive ACH as a non-resident, some banks have restrictions depending on how the account was opened.

The form is designed to handle people from many different countries which can make some of the information confusing. The form assumes that if you have a U.S. bank account then you must be a U.S. person. The assumption doesn't fully hold up nowadays with virtual bank accounts but for tax risk minimisation almost every provider is going to assume this is true forever more. So, if you want to use a U.S. bank account with Afternic you need to be a U.S. person. The "Non-U.S. person" tab shows up when you've started the form by declaring a different country (not the U.S).

Why do you have a U.S. bank account if you're not a U.S. person? Do you have a bank account in any other country you can use?

Ps. changing your country is a pain because of the way the Tipalti form is embedded in an iframe obscuring confirmation dialogs. You'll need to grab the iframe URL and then visit it in a new tab to have full access to the flow to switch country. Run document.getElementById('tipaltiFrame').src in your browser console when you're on the Payee page of Afternic and then visit the URL directly.

Hi Salmon,

This is a common issue with Afternic (especially when using a US address + US bank account as a non-US person).

Afternic/Tipalti usually shows the “Non US person” option only when the address country is set to a non-US country. If you put a USA address, the system forces the W-9 path and hides the Non-US option.

What you can try:

  1. Go back to the payee setup and change the address country to your real country of residence (not USA).
  2. Then the “Non US person” tab / W-8BEN form should appear.
  3. Complete the W-8BEN form.
Important notes:

  • ACH is generally only available for US persons. For non-US sellers, Afternic usually offers PayPal, Wire, or eCheck instead.
  • Even if you have a US bank account, if you are not a US person for tax purposes, you should use W-8BEN (not W-9).
If the option still doesn’t appear after changing the address, the best next step is to contact Afternic support and explain that you are a non-US person with a US bank account and need the W-8 form.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I tried with your way but still only one option- W9.
