If as you say, its a large company, they clearly have an interest in your domain. As its an end user enquiry I would start off with a mid xxxx and take it from there. Explain you had a project in mind for it but would reluctantly let it go for $6000.

Then wait for the counter offer.

Does 'one big company' mean a massive company like Ford or Apple, or from a large company only operating in one city with a few stores, or what? Knowing the size/scope of the company greatly aids you in setting a price. When it's a 'blind' offer as on Sedo, where you don't know the person/biz making the offer, it's all guesswork. If you've been contacted directly by a company (and you're sure it's bonafide, rather than an appraisal scam), this should give us room for much more accurate appraisals to help you set a price range. Can you let us know:

Huge, worldwide company worth billions?
Large company operating in many areas/or over the net, worth low millions?
Large local company with a store or a few stores?

For that domain name i u i d -- net, you'll never get a HUGE pile of cash, probably; but the size of the company can make the difference between you asking $200 and $2000 or more.

the potential buyer is the first result in google,msn, yahoo besides wikipedia ( on i / u / i / d search)

After wikipedia, each of those results brings a different site for me in my area. Is it the toolkit site? If so... I can't even get into that, page won't load... you can PM me the site if you like and I'll have a look without posting the name here... then can give you my 2 cents worth of appraisal and suggestion :)

one option

"Thanks for the interest shown in the domain xyz. I have currently listed the domain at sedo <post link here>. Please post your offer there so that we can go through a secure sale if we agree on the price. Please let me know in case of any enquiries pertaining to the same."

provide your company name / email and contact no's if possible to put some business relevance. They should think of you as a business and NOT a domainer selling for a quick buck.

i dont have an account on sedo, and it takes some time for me to open an account because i have to sign some papers and send them back and that could take some time. I'll try this option as long as i dont get another good ideea that i could use

Their site won't let me in, for some reason, can't see anything about them.
Without knowing more, I'd suggest something like Krossat mentioned, though I'd probably say
"We have a minimum offer price of $1200 at which we would push the name to Sedo's 7-day auction where it can be bid on by others; our BIN price is 3K" - substitute your own amounts, of course, and make sure your sedo listing is accurate accordingly...

Ah, I see you don't have a Sedo accnt and it would take some work for you to get one; so you're left with dealing directly with the company. I'm going in blind, so keep that in mind with my suggestion: If you think they're large enough, IMO start with telling them $3K and see what their response is. If you judge they're not huge, start with half that amount. You can suggest that they make their final offer price using the services of escrow.com so you're both assured of a secure transaction.

That is owned by SAIC one of the big government contractor with revenues in the BILLIONS, so I think they do have deep pocket. The .com version of "i u i d " is owned by some dude name Frank in the Cayman Islands, so you know he won't let it go cheaply which puts you in a better position. I would start with mid xxxx and go from there.

You can potentially get more if they have critical project depending on that name, but it's up to you if want to take that chance. Good luck.

That's good leverage; huge company, and the dot.com owned by F Schilling, who would charge a huge amount for it from them. Still, if they're that big, you would think they could afford to pay Frank's price, which surely would be anywhere in the xx,xxx range.
They must not have TOO deep pockets... or they just don't want to budget that much cash for a domain name.

But your price can go up some. I still think anywhere in the mid x,xxx range, tops. GL and keep us updated; sounds like you found the absolute perfect end user... deep pockets, but where the 'other extension' is still too costly for their budget... :)

Don't panic. Did the email have a contact number and someone to speak with? If so phone them up in a couple of days if still no reply.
