:hi:

I had an offer on a domain at Sedo for very low xxxx. Its a nice and unique tech domain, up and coming product. I had the domain valued right around the offer price, just :imho: .

My experience tells me that sometimes when you get a fair offer and counter, the buyer disappears. Also, when you send to auction they can get buyer's remorse a bit early and disappear....or if there are no other bidders they question themselves about the value they placed.

That said, this certainly could be an end user who bid through a parked page and expects me to counter and intends to pay more.

Questions:

1. General advice...what would you do?

2. Have you had similar experiences as far as buyers disappearing when you counter?

3. Do end users bid through Sedo, or are the more sophisticated ones likely to use whois and contact me directly?

Plain and simple, if it's a fair value and you want to sell it, then take the offer. If you don't think it's fair and want to sell it, counter or send it to auction.

Yes, it does happen that buyers run when you counter because many times it is other domainers that are looking for deals.

Yes, some end users bid through Sedo, but I've noticed it's mostly other domainers.

Thanks...it actually caught me off guard that such a fair price, esp for a domainer, was offered up front...that's what got me thinking end user.

With "upcoming tech", remember that there's always a limited window of opportunity as well... If someone doesn't offer me enough on an LLL.com, I know I can always wait a few months and get more for it... If this upcoming tech product all of the sudden loses hype, you may very well find yourself with a near-worthless name.

Beta-Max -> VHS... Times have changed and most upcoming tech products that flop do so alot faster, shrinking the window of opportunity even further.

I'd carefully consider the offer before rejecting it or countering. The enduser market is quite small for products that haven't hit the market -- especially if they're not of generic nature like LCD.com, OLED.com, etc.

Thanks Reece - appreciate your thoughtfulness. This one is almost definitely going to hit the market in a fairly big way...but I do not have a prime generic, I just have a nice sounding and fitting two word name.

A bird :$: in the hand ... is worth (more) than two in the bush, IMHO. :talk:

Congrats! :sold:

If you are happy with it, which seems like you are, I would take the deal. A counter very well could lead you to a no reply/no sale.

For sure it's hard to guage without seeing the domain and price, but from the sounds of it, take the cash and have a party and buy another domain ;)
