Advice for noobs and veterans of domaining.

Because of the recent issue with RF and some posts I have been seeing here at NP I have decided to give a word of advice. This is for ALL domainers.

When you register or buy a domain. Keep a text file with the auth/epp code. Too often I see domainers in a bind because they do not know the auth code. This isn't only registerfly as well. There are many resellers out there that go under. Some do not make it easy to obtain the auth code but I suggest you go through the trouble and get it while you can. I personally keep a long list of my domains with ALL the auth codes. It comes in handy too.

Just some advice and something to ponder.

I would just like to add that some Registrars randomly or periodically
change the Auth Code.

Perhaps such Registrars once identified should be avoided.

excellent point Patrick, I was just about to say that. Some even allow you to set the code yourself.

I've noticed that GD has randomly changed EPP codes on me. I've noticed this when I tried transferring domains out. My first hunch was that GD was trying to prevent the transfers by doing this. However, I'm skeptical they would try something so RF-like.

Whats an epp code and how can I get mine from GoDaddy?

Go to domain management, click on a domain, then there should be an option to send an email with the authorization code.
