Today Andorra Telecom made all .ad domains available for general registration across 11 partner registers including Marcaria, INWX, and 101domains. Andorra had recently announced that registration restrictions were to be lifted earlier this year. Not suprisingly, all strong keywords like Mobile, Pay, Search, and Social were snapped up during the sunrise phase at a higher fee. The .ad extension presents significant potential to be used in a generic business capacity. The tld is short for advertising, advertisment, and ads. Google has yet to launch their .ads tld which has no foreceable date set. Who knows how .ad will perform but I do believe it is one the better cctld launches of the past couple of years.

While I was not to keen initially, I thought I would throw my hat in the ring and snap up a few names a few weeks ago.

Can .ad domains be used for any purpose?
.ad domains can be used for any use, except those expressly prohibited by regulation.
It is strictly prohibited to use .ad domain names for:
Commercially offer third-level domain name registrations to independent third parties
Send unsolicited commercial advertising, in a way that contravenes the relevant legislation or the regulations of usual acceptable use of the internet
Register multiple domains for the sole purpose of establishing parking pages with advertising and/or redirecting traffic to other domains
Distribute malware
Contribute to the operation of zombie networks or other similar abusive uses
Impersonate (carry out phishing)
It is also not permitted to use the .ad domain name for the purpose of trading in domain names for sale, resale or transfer, nor to allow or contribute to a third party doing so.
