Hello,
I'm posting here to more or less complain about Above.com's policy on domain name security procedures and how it has inconvenienced me.
I bought a domain on Namepros (Here) and the registrar was with Above.com and I've never used them before. I usually just use Namecheap or Name.com... Godaddy I try to steer away from. Anyways, I got the domain transferred to me with relative ease; however, the problem came when trying to change the DNS settings. When I tried to change the DNS setting it came up with a pop-up saying I had to submit a form of identification, such as my driving license, debit card, passport, utility bills and other forms of identity.
I submitted my debit card and blanked out the important info, but made sure to leave my name visibly on the imprinted card. It took around a day for them to respond to that and then they e-mailed me saying they would need to do phone verification and that they'd like to know when it'd be good to call me.
I then sent them an angry e-mail back saying that no other registrar has security measures this stringent, so why are they enforcing such anal security policies? Surely their system just needs to be secure like most other registrars?
I mean, I admire their strict security steps, but is it really required? Either way, it's certainly put me off from registering any domains with them and I'll likely be transferring my domain to Name.com or some other registrar, whom I've been with since 2005-6 (Domainsite, too) and I've had no security issues with.
Am I alone on this or is anyone sharing the same disappointments? I would have liked to have had my site up and running. Unfortunately I have to wait for them to call me... plus, the extra day that I had to wait for them to contact me to verify my information and to reply to them when it's a good time to contact me to finally verify my account. Additionally, I'm living in another country and will be returning to my home country in 2 days time, so if they don't call me now, I'll have to pester them more to verify my account. I can't believe they have any customers especially when other registrars are not this strict.
