Please explain the following to me. When a domain is sold through the "Domain Wanted" or "Domains Offered for sale" here on this forum then does the new owner have to pay for another years registration apart from the purchase price? And what happens if the domain is "PUSHED" from one account to the new buyers account? Does he then also have to pay another years registration or is the remaining time still valid? Could someone please explain these ins and outs about what happens when you sell a domain here and what the best scenario would be and how that scenario would play out.
Thank you for your time
Fred

Hey binaryman,

Some (most?) domain accounts have a 'free push' facility. I have never paid transfer fees and I have domains in a number of accounts. Check with the seller how long is left before the renewal date of the domain, and that they offer a free push to your account.

You don't need to pay for any transfer fees if the domain is "pushed" to your account. In addition you don't need to renew the domain untill that domain "needs" to be renewed and that will depend on how much time is left for renewal from the person that sold it to you. So yes the time remaining is also transfered to you with the purchase.

Thanx to both of you for taking the trouble to reply. One other question... Can a "PUSH" only be done if both the user and the buyer are using the same registrar or can it be done also between different registrars?

PS.
By the way this is .com we are talking about of course.
.EU works differently. I sold a .EU domain recently and the buyer opened an account with my registrar but had to pay for a new year of registration.

yup transfer need to pay,

that's why you always read the fine prints, be it in auction where "transfer fee require" always is hard to find

As stated, push's are generally free. Transfers require payment of another year's reg fee at the gaining registrar. I recommend highly against using a registrar transfer as a means to do a registrant transfer. It's best to do the ownership change at one registrar, and then let the new owner process a registar transfer if they wish.

Something to check before buying or selling is the registration and expiration date. If a new registration or at the current registrar for less than 60 days, you cannot do a transfer until that period is up. Also some registrars (Godaddy, Wildwest) have their own rules that prevent registrar transfers if ownership has changed in the last 60 days. If the expiration is near, some registrars prohibit registrar transfers within a few days/weeks of the expiration date.

the transfer fees you paid most time will add another year for you.
