About Bluray (Blu-ray) domains

I am understanding that blu-ray and bluray are both trademarks owned by Sony, yet their are many websites with bluray in their name and many people here have blu-ray or bluray domains. What are your thoughts on this?

Blu-Ray Disc is a trademark of Sony. Blu-Ray isn't a trademark. Look it up on this site - uspto.gov - or do a search for previous discussions on this subject.

Thanks akcampbell, it was actually reading search results info that confused me. Apparently they filed in 2005 for "blue-ray" and this was abandoned last september 2007, doest this mean they tried but were not able to trademark the name?

It probably means the "Blu-Ray" trademark application was opposed by dozens of other manufacturers who didn't want to pay Sony a royalty every time they wrote the word Blu-Ray on a product.
