I watched the OSCARS award yesterday and I was just a bit disappointed about avatar not getting the best picture. The award goes to the hurt locker. Anyways, both movies are great. Kudos to the hardworking directors and staff!!!

I haven't seen Hurt Locker, but I really want to after watching the awards. The people who were involved in creating it seemed so passionate.

I don't think Avatar was anything but a marvelous visual movie. Storyline was so-so. It was basic sci-fi. I haven't yet seen Hurt Locker so I can't compare but I didn't think Avatar deserved best picture. Normally when I walk out of the theatre I know if it should be #1.

Well it couldn't be that good of a movie if none of us have seen it but have all seen avatar...

Hi! It was also surprising for me - I appreciate the movie "Avatar", especially its saturated and kind plot. However, I'm convinced that this kind of contest can be already "bought".

Guys, you need watch the Hurt Locker, than you would understand...:)

Seriously, Avatar was a feast for the mind through the eyes(imo even without 3D) but the Hurt Locker had more depth to the story.....

Just my 2 cents :)

Cheers

I have seen both the movies

Avatar was all eye candy, only visually appealing but not much with story or acting

Hurt Locker is all about brave cinematography, acting abilities and true story telling.

I heard an interview on NPR of soldiers talking about what they thought of "Hurt Locker"

These soldiers made a joke about it and tell each other not to "get all hurt locker on me" when someone is acting very dramatic in their squad, and were poking fun at the extreme "over-acting" in it. I had a chuckle over that since many non-soldiers are fast to talk about the realness of the movie.

Then again, it IS a movie that is made for 'entertainment', aint no documentary.. I will rent it at blockbuster.

The Academy has wanted an Iraq War film to give Best Picture to. And to the Academy's credit, they didn't bite on Oscar bait like Valley of Elah a few years ago.

The Academy also had a chance to surprise everyone by giving the first Best Director ever given to a female director to someone so outside the mold.

Trust me: the Oscar folks are proud of this one. They wanted a movie like The Hurt Locker so bad for so many years. They're just glad to finally get it out of their system so they can find a musical about mentally disabled gay cowboys in an insane asylum studying Shakespeare to give Best Picture to next year.

In fairness, look at all the Vietnam War movies ever made . . . I mean, Apocalypse Now? I don't think too many guys who went to Vietnam saw anyone surfing while the Air Cav was setting up a command post under fire.

With the exception of Band of Brothers, I've never heard of anyone saying that a war movie got it right.

Haha that's funny...surfing soldiers. Also, in fairness, I hear news and media talk about how they DO get it right with certain war movies. I'm sure they are paid off, though.:$::$::$:

I was rooting for Avatar but Hurt Locker took it away. Whatever the reason, Avatar is still No. 1 for a lot of movie goers and that's all that matters.

I personally really enjoyed "The Hurt Locker" a lot. Filmmakers have been trying for years to make a good movie about the war in Iraq and I felt like "The Hurt Locker" was a great representation of it. While I enjoyed "Avatar," I felt like "The Hurt Locker" was a notch above it.
