Had a strange call today from a lady asking me if I was interested in renewing old domains that I use to own. She said she was from ICANN.

Anyone else had a call from her ?

Seems fishy.. on so many levels. First red flag is an ICANN employee calling you, these are mythical characters.

Seriously though, the entity couldn't care less on domain renewals and a legitimate employee would have to have a demanding precedent to contact a domain owner directly.

Did you get the telephone number they were calling from? Could be spoofed, but you could Google it to see what comes up.

Before domain privacy, I would get actual mailed letters from other registrars trying to get me to transfer or renew and move domains to them. They were always at extremely inflated prices.

My guess it was either a telephone version of that, or it was a scammer trying to get your account information and / or credit card.

ICANN employee dont even care if you have Bob com or what ever domains you have unless have a decision in court and any they send a email ( maybe ) and as say @HotKey are mythical , basic no one know who are ( without ceo or key people ) also from IANA long as they keep the key ( that secret keys ) of domains & other stuffffsss

So ( imo ) 100% spam

ICANN member can't be domainers with a client for a domain? =)
I noticed that a lot of members hold nice domains.

Anyway if even there was so, if they or someone wanna to buy name, they wouldn't ask so, just buy domain on market, may ask to lower price or even just wait will be a name renewed or not.

Yes she called on a UK number and said she was calling from the US so straight away I knew things were a bit fishy then she told me what her name is and said it’s a Chinese name she sounded like she was from India. Anyway after she rattled off a few of my domains I use to own including a few names that I never owned I told her she was a scammer which she didn’t like and became angry. At that point I put the phone down. Some people would have fallen for it though it’s just very sad what some people try and do these days to get money from you. I have since google searched them number and it’s shows the number is a scam number.
