Hi all,

I'm about to purchase a domain, seller refused to do escrow.

Is it risky that i sent money to him via paypal(not masspay)?

I thought that if he trys to scam me(refused to transfer after my money), i'll write a dispute to paypal. Am i safe in this situation?

Thank you in advance.

STOP!.

Firstly, disputing a payment made via paypal for domains are not that easy, since it's a digital item, you're more likely to lose the dispute.

Secondly, where are your purchasing the domain from?. Is it from a forum, if so, check his/her rep to see if they are trustworthy, and how other people have interacted with them before....

Thirdly, if you're so desperate to purchase that domain name, offer to pay for the escrow fees (suggestion)...

I can't see why a seller would refuse to work with you on an escrow transaction, after all, it's a dual benefit for both the buyer and seller....:?

Why does he refuse escrow ? Because of the fees ? Sounds suspicious.
If things go sour paypal won't help because it involves intangible items.

quite on the contrary. When we're talking about intangible goods, the buyer in most cases wins the dispute. I remember there was a thread on DigitalPoint regarding this specific situation. Oh yes, here you go: Vendors Be Careful when selling using Paypal and GoDaddy

of course, you'll only get your money back if the seller will still have money left in his account or a credit/debit card attached to it with enough money on it

Now, about the refusal of dealing with Escrow. That should definitely say something.

For example I won't be able to use escrow.com because for some reason my country (Romania) is banned:

Code:
Your access to Escrow.com has been denied.

but hey, escrow.com isn't the only trustworthy escrow service out there.

On a final note, pay extra attention considering the seller put it quite bluntly that he won't do escrow. As I previous poster suggested, say that you're going to support the fees (especially if we are talking about a considerable amount)

Several questions to paint a better picture:

Had you offered to pay the Escrow?
Did he contact you, or did you contact him?
How did you get in contact with him?
What country is he located in?
What country are you located in?

And what's the dollar amount?
