PayPal Refund Question

I just had my first PayPal complaint today ever. To make a long story short, the first guy who had bought my script removed my link from the script without purchasing a private label license. He also said he would pay for a private label licence if I added a feature, which I did. However, he refused to pay for the license and kept the link off. After asking him nicely a few times, I finally told him that he was violating the license today unless he simply puts the link back on, pay the money he promised in the first place, or take down the site. What does he do? He complains to PayPal to get his money back. Thankfully, this person is on another forum besides NP :).

When I went to PayPal to say this guy was nuts, I only saw 3 options: provide a full refund, provide a tracking number, or say that a refund was already given. Since I was tired of the guy and I didnt want any trouble, I provided a full refund. However, I noticed later that "This policy applies only to the sale of tangible, physical goods and excludes all other sales and services, pursuant to section 1 above."

So I didnt have to give a refund? I noticed his note to PayPal was "The seller promised items and has yet to deliver them,
therefore I wish to receive a full refund." He has had my script for over 2 weeks lol. Did this guy just abuse PayPal's policy or what? Also, what can I do if this unfortunate thing happens again?

I know its not domain related but I did not know where else to ask it. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's just a learning process. I have had terrible experience with them too, even involving >US$400. The last time it happend to me, it was related to REAL, tangible goods. I paid but never received the item. Paypal resolution? I got back $0.01 (all that was left in the seller's account) and a promise that they weren't happy with the resolution and would not stop pursuing the matter. Have not heard back since.

If it was a credit card payment and he did a chargeback on his cc (which is what happens on most chargebacks), you are only protected if the merchandise was tangible. If the merchandise was not tangible then you are under no protection. Paypal is horrible sometimes.

Now this idiot posts this on his site: (edited because site is under a new owner)

He gets a refund then pulls this? Wow, some people just amaze me lol.

Well at least he/she is not using your script anymore. It's amazing to me what people will do to each other over the net but wouldn't have the guts to do or say to someones face. I have dealt with a few skunks lately that I'd like to meet in person.

Yes, hopefully it is done. Not crazy about what he put on his site tho. I think that was extremely unprofessional.

I don't think the transaction was via a credit card because I am the one who gave him his refund.

Mainly I just want to know what I could do in the future if somebody else tries to abuse PayPal like this. Is there a way I can contact them or something? They did not give me a place to state my case anywhere on the complaint.

The PayPal policy for selling software can make things difficult on sellers. If a customer files a dispute for non-reciept, you can go to your post office and mail it to them on disk so you can have a tracking number to respond to PayPal with. There have been a few instances where I've had to do this.

Hmmm not a bad idea :).

Is there anyway for a seller to complain about a buyer abusing PayPal's policy?

Nice idea -RJ-

Also, doaminogre, you should of recieved an email stating the situation, and you didn't HAVE to give him the refund, you could of asked paypal to investigate and you could of easily showed them his site and the situation would of been resolved.

RJ, FWIW, when Paypal contacted my seller, he had the audacity to enter his tracking code (as proof of delivery) as #000000. End resultl? I got back US$0.01 and case closed.

mail a receipt priority with tracking when you use paypal

then you can at least put a real tracking number in

paypal doesn't like net downloads

I don't use them on any domain over 500+ bucks

escrow.com is the way to go for domains

FYI about 'youlinkit.com'

Sorry to dredge up such an old post here, but this domain 'youlinkit.com' is under a new owner (me;)), and that nasty message was removed some time ago.
You were obviously mistreated by the old owner, and for that I'm sorry, although I have nothing to do with him other than buying this name.

Yes, you emailed me about it back then but did not ask to remove the link. However, I removed it just now.

Glad to hear its under better management :).
