A Marketing Experiment and Project using NamePros

Hi,

I want to do a marketing experiment by building a brand and value into a domain name using NamePros as my primary resource. That is, using your guidance and NP$ to purchase services from NamePros and members.

This is what I will do:
1. Choose a trend which I believe is hot
2. Coin a new definition that could grow with the trend
3. Buy the domain name for the new definition
4. Set a financial goal for the project
5. Contract the logo design using NamePros
6. Build a site using an open source Content Management System
7. Start blogging about the trend
8. Ask for your help / suggestions
9. Continuously track the development of the project, and document it
10. Learn about and use marketing techniques and SEO available at NamePros
11. Make a transition between a pure content site to a mix service/content site
12. Sell to meet the financial goal set on 4?

So far, I have gone through steps 1, 2, and 3. All the steps are not necessarily in chronological order, and some of them will be done in a continuous basis.

I am sure that someone has already tried to do something similar to this in Namepros, and might add something to this thread so we can all learn:).

Step 1, 2, 3: Hot Trend: Wallet Phones -> PhoneGaroo.com

Step 1: The trend that I will choose for this marketing experiment is that of Phone Wallets, or Mobile Wallets. They made a lot of hype in 2004 and they are in a re-awakening in Asia where mobile phone technology and culture is allowing for the rebirth of this trend.

Step 2: The term I am coining to deal with this trend is PhoneGaroo, or a Phone that works like a Kangaroo's pouch.

Step 3: The domain name: PhoneGaroo.com

A preview of Step 6: http://www.PhoneGaroo.com . I am using Drupal (http://www.Drupal.org) to this end.

Yes I have done this. Only thing that is different is that I always go to Step 4 and raise the limit once again and then continue the steps once more.

Most of the things will depend on the Goal that you set on Step 4. Its crucial part.

Don't set it too high. You can set it low and then slowly keep on raising the bar :)

So what is the financial goal if I may ask? :)

Hello InterestedEnough,

Why don't you give the step 4 some thoughts. If you want an opinion then I would say lets start with $200 goal. A $200 goal is good one to look at and achievable without breaking the morales :xf.love:

When that is accomplished you will have confidence and confidence and interests are also important thing in web business.

I don't know your strategy but if you could write something out then we can discuss it :)

Thanks.

I am thinking orders of magnitude higher than that, and I don't want to scare you away since you are interested:

Say $2,000,000 to the first person or entity that offers this much for the project in whatever shape it is by the moment.

I don't want things to be centered around a number, but more on the experiment itself, which is a long term experiment/project, that is 3 to 5 years. If this project doesn't crystallize, that is fine, it will not be my first "learning" project, and I am sure it will not be the last. In the past, actually my mistake has been not thinking big enough. You have to set goals high enough that you can look beyond the occasional bump (of course, without underestimating anything, and learning from every small failure).

It is in development, but the basic strategy is to develop a term into an accepted common term by the time the trend reaches a critical mass. If the trend never becomes a reality, then that is the risk side of this project.

Well friend then you might need nerves of steel and a heart of a lion. I can understand your goals but I think I can't jump that high a step in just one go. [Yes this is just for me though]

You might be able do it.

Thanks.

2000,000 for mobile pouches seems kinda doubtful.

Specially if you're targeting asia - you get ripoffs here for a buck...

Might be a tough nut, if you think $200 is low, shoot for a higher but logically achievable number. Best of luck.
