Is there such a thing as a good inkjet printer? I've had an Epson and now a HP go bad on me. The Epson was crap from the beginning, and the ink was ridiculously expensive and hard to find. I thought this HP I bought would be better - we've had two HP's in the past and they worked well - but it has been crap as well and is apparently about to go out. It just randomly shuts off on its own and it has never been able to takea single sheet of paper from a stack. It always makes printing a 3-4 page document an absolute hassle.

Any suggestions on a good, affordable printer that actually works like it should?

Printers are cheap nowadays and much more plasticky. I've been using Epson, but I buy Compatible Ink Cartridges from Ebay at 1/6 the price as Epsons. Works fine for me and much, much cheaper even though the quality of these cartriges is a little below the originals, but only a little.
At the moment I have an Epson Stylus Photo R285 which I also use to print CD's and DVD's.

I've got a Canon Photo inkjet printer that works wonderfully, the pictures come out looking great. But alas, the cartridges are rather expensive, really depends on what & how much you print. The last printer I had was a Canon as well, which I put through it's paces for years and years without fail. (I was sorry to see it finally die)

I've got an HP PhotoSmart 7160 that I've used heavily for all of my primary printing and it's worked like a charm for the past few years. It prints 32 ppm black and 31 ppm color and the quality is excellent for documents or photos. Also have a Brother All-In-One for occasionally copying or faxing...although the quality isn't as good as the HP.

There are more options in the PhotoSmart series now than when I bought mine though. I paid about $180 for mine a few years ago if I remember correctly, but I see Amazon is selling it for $62.57 right now with free shipping.

Best of luck to you, Denver. :)

I like my Lexmark 4350 all in one.. no complaints other than high cost of consumables.

i only buy printers that have cheap cartridges that i can refill myself with ink, do that about ten to twenty times and its like having a free printer. Canon i found is the best for this in all around cost and ease Not all Canons have the lowcost black cartridges so you got to figure that out before you buy
