A few questions about GoDaddy:

1) Are there any hidden charges / scams with all these cheap domains with promocodes at $4/$3 a piece? Ive regged a couple of hundred and if there's a catch where its $50 a name, that's gonna be a whopping bill

2) I heard they charge $30 onto your CC automatically if they have to handle a dispute about a potentially TM infringed domain- is this true, or only if the name is under whois protection?

It's quite worrying how they can charge our CC without our consent (although we accepted it by accepting the TOS)... do other registrars do this as well?

As to 1), no. I have not encountered any problems in terms of hidden fees. GD makes their money off non-domain items such as hosting.
As to 2), I do not know about because I have never experienced that problem. If you are worried, you may want to use your paypal account instead of your credit card.

The $50/ that I referred to was what some names ended up costing me due to GoDaddy's billing policies, but is not the amt that GoDaddy made from the sale and is not a hidden catch, per se.
The chain of events that caused this to happen are unusual and this only happenned to me once. The approximate $50 that each name ended up costing me, was the result of an accounting mistake I had made made which led me to purchasie names w/ a creditcard that had reached it's limit. (My pmt on the CC wasn't posted in time- I missed Godaddy's retry, literally, by one day.) The $50 avg = Reg fee + $25 collection agency fee + CC bank ISF fee. My gripe w/ GoDaddy, (and what I was/am cautioning others about), is their practice of accepting payment w/o verifying funds 1st. *At the discretion of the seller and their policies*, credit card pmts for online purchases *can* be treated differently than they are when used for in-store purchases where the cc co will deny pmt if the customer is over limit. I would have much preferred it if GoDaddy had not accepted pmt and made my card go from near limit to overlimit. All of my purchases were made during different sessions and, although they were all made on the same day, and were *posted to my account on the same day*, each was treated seperately and I received a $25 collection fee for each one. I think it would have been more fair and equitable if they would have lumped the days purchases together and had sent one collection notice w/ one collection fee, instead of 7 or 8 seperate notices each w/ a $25 collection fee. Furthermore, they never contacted me via my "Account Manager" or through their billing Dept. If they would have, I would have advised them to submit again to the credit card, because it had been funded or I would have given them an alternate credit card or arranged an alternate form of payment. Their unwillingness and feigned impotance at being unable to make an adjustment w/ a good, long-standing customer was the straw that broke the camels back regarding my relationship and present day opinion of GoDaddy. I will never do business with them again. I have transferred away most of the 1,000+ names that I had registered w/ them and have discontinued all except a couple of services that were already prepaid. Their 1st level "Customer Service" is a sham- it's a boiler room sales floor w/ some service thrown in, if you are lucky and happen to catch the right rep after you've gotten off the 20 minute hold they often put you on.

GoDaddy.com charges a one-time nonrefundable $29.95 service fee if/when a WIPO Complaint is filed against any domain name you might own, whether or not you use whois protection.

Has this happened to many of you out there? It would be a hefty sum if you had a few typos with GD

Thanks for clariying Grrilla

I heard about the WIPO fee for a long time... and I still use Godaddy simply because they are cheap (w/ LOOPHOLES)...
if they are not cheap anymore, but comes with more bad issues, I will transfer all of them to NC or DS...
