A Domain Purchased for $857 Last Year Just Sold for $117,000 to Join Another 6-Figure Sale at the Top of Our Latest Chart

The back story on this sale is one of the most compelling ones we've seen in a long time. Industry veteran John D. has been toiling in the domain mines for the past 10 years with one prime directive - he would not publicly report a domain sale until he had one that broke the $100,000 mark. Well, the gag order he imposed upon himself has finally been lifted thanks to a stunning $117,000 sale this week.

Great sale and another lesson that you can't sell any names for 117k if you ask 1,988. Buyers usually don't offer you more than your BIN. With the stock market, crypto, gold, real estate, setting new highs, adjust your price. Companies are also raising a lot of money.

That's 100% True.

It's a weird sale because the domain Fintiv (dot) com was only registered on 22 May 2024. Normally only domains that are aged and precede a certain trademark are sold for these sort of prices...

Funny, I wouldn't even hand-reg it. Quite obviously it was purchased (at dropcatch) with one specific buyer in mind, make of it what you will.

Indeed. And the company that likely purchased it was already active before the date the domain was registered, so would filing a UDRP not have been a cheaper option to get the domain?

That’s an incredible story — huge congrats to John D. on the milestone and the patience it took to get there! Holding off on reporting any sales until breaking the $100K mark shows real discipline and focus. It’s inspiring to see persistence like that pay off in such a big way.

Also, big thanks for continuing to highlight these kinds of success stories. They really show how strategic investing, timing, and consistency can turn long-term effort into standout results.

They might not have known that a UDRP was an option, or they could've learned about it too late (you shouldn't file a UDRP if negotiations fail).

Thank You I couldn't even get to the domain name because the article was so convoluted it gave me a headache and I gave up. The Domain sales seem to be coming from an alternate universe where the law of physics does not apply.
