Hi everyone,

I have a question ... A western Europe banking institution wish to buy one of my domain ... It's not a spam ...

It's a huge opportunity ! This domain was registered 6 months ago... Here is the email:

Dear Mr. XXX,

I am writing you regarding web domain xxxxxxxx.com, since GoDaddy listed this e-mail as a contact address. The banking company I work for is interested to purchase this web domain since it is currently not used. If you are willing to sell the domain please let me know about the price.

Best regards,

What should I ask ? I won't mention the domain (on this forum) before it's sold ...

Thank you for your help.

Great!!
Research more about the bank. Check the banks purchase history and how much they have paid previously.
PM some pro here ask for help.
Good luck

ask for whatever you think the domain is worth (to anybody, not just a bank).

Say that it's not officially for sale but....

Remember one thing: just because they might have a lot of money, doesn't mean that they'll offer you a $1 million or even $25,000 so you have to be careful. Hopefully you get an offer that makes it easier for you or you state a price that doesn't turn them off automatically. I own a cool, brandable name that's used as their official name by many hundred million dollar companies yet no one has offered more than low 4 figures. It's very, very strange. They spend tens of millions in advertising a year yet $50k for their name.com seems a lot.

Guess they will need an appraisal?

"Never thought about selling it but, I guess I'll see how much are you offering...." than ask them to make their close to highest offer since if the offer is to low you will not answer..etc etc.

Just give your amount to them without any hoohaas. Get straight to the point.

whatever the outcome, please let us know if that was a legitimate offer (in case it's one of those scamming emails)
apart from that, best of luck :)

The first thing you should do is verify that the email address that the email is coming from actually belongs to the bank, compare it with the email addresses of employees at the bank, find them on the banking site or linkedin etc.
Also check that the domain that the email is coming from wasn't recently registered.

This was is my expectation as well...

Looks like you must have wrote back already and will definitely be great to see the end result. Just in case you didn't yet a good rule of thumb like many have said is just to give them the straight number and see if they are willing to pay that or go up close to your target price.

Depending on what the domain is and the past sales of similar domains I would still start at 15 to 20 times the cost of the domain knowing that a great sale is 10 times you can feel them out and give them a higher price that you will be happy with. Remember if they are interested they will counter offer for sure or just accept your price.

The initial email seemed legit enough for it to develop into a nice back and forth negotiation.

No it's not a Scam ... I know this institution as my domain is very close to their name ... I have verified the email and everything ... Actually I may have 2 domains sold in this transaction ...

For now, I'm waiting for the first offer ...

Best of luck with your negotiations. Come up with a nice healthy number that would make you happy and give it to them. Whatever you do, don't pay for an appraisal-- if they start asking you to get one, it's probably a scam.

If it's not a spam, then great opportunity for you to demand higher for your domain because he is an end-user and will always willing to pay high value to acquire his desired domain.:lookaround:
