Labeled as REQ-LOGO in Design Contests, started by neroux, Oct 9, 2020
Again, thanks everyone. Quick feedback session
#24 - I believe you were going for mentioned dovecote analogy here, right? I appreciate that, but with that particular icon I can't help but only think of a circus tent or alike .
#25 - Actually not bad, but maybe you could tweak it a bit so that the RSS symbol is not
#26 - Difficult to say to be honest. It has potential but I haven't fallen in love yet either. A bit ambivalent. Also the shape would be tricky to squeeze into adapative icons.
@sheryonline - #27 A bit barren it seems. Just the RSS symbol is not something I'd be looking for.
@galalogo - #28 Better than #18 but now we are moving back to RSS symbol only again. #13 and #16 already had potential, if they were just spiced up a bit and not exclusively relying on the RSS symbol.
So far favourites are #20, #21, and #25 (though maybe with some revisions and not just as "white"). #13 and #16 have potential but would need some tweaking.
Again, thanks everyone for participating and even if I haven't fallen in love with one icon yet, there is a lot of talent here. Thanks!
Thanks @galalogo! The new submission is not bad either, but the underlying issue is the same. It still all revolves around the RSS symbol as primary element. As mentioned a few times, there is no issue incorporating that symbol but it shouldn't be the primary focus of the icon
Just to be once again absolutely clear for everyone, I am not looking for yet another variation of the RSS symbol. Using it as part of the icon is fine but the icon should have its own character.
In my previous feedback I voiced some criticism about #26 but it still is a semi-decent example of how the RSS style could be incorporated. Also your second submission at #16 (even though unbalanced) was an attempt of using the concept without going straight for the symbol itself.
Not quite there yet but we are slowly approaching the date where the contest ends.
Please submit any new ideas or revisions whenever you have them
Unfortunately I just discovered that #21 is essentially the same image as Audible's logo. For that reason I am afraid I have to disqualify that entry. @logoexpert please confirm that both entries (#20 and #21) were your original artwork and not taken from anywhere else. Also, please let me know if you still want to participate, as I'd need revisions based on the provided feedback.
As for the new submissions of @kraman.157 and @Altruist Design
#33 Not bad, but on one hand very similar to #28 and on the other hand, the focus is still almost exclusively on the RSS symbol. I am simply missing aforementioned "character of the icon"
#34 & #35 Not bad either, but my immediate association is either a puzzle game or something door key related.
#36 I just noticed my feedback in #29 for your last image was truncated. My apologies for that, please. The new icons are relatively similar to #25 and - while their concept is far from bad - for some reason I associate them rather with Wonder Woman or Transformers. Maybe some tweaking could help? 🤷🏼♂️ ☺️
@Altruist Design, could you maybe whip up a couple of versions (colours, shapes, orientation, etc.) of #26, particularly in a way that would fit Google's adaptive icons (the hexagon outline might be a tad difficult here)?
One other issue I just realised, if the RSS symbol is integrated in an upright fashion, it actually resembles rather the Wifi symbol.
Also, I did mention it in the original posting, but I want to stress the icon needs to be a vector.
hi @neroux thanks for pointing out, I just double check the Audible's logo has a bit similarity of my #21 entry and I've now edited the design and re-uploaded. However, the #20 entry is original artwork yes, I still want to participate and will submit the revisions on the provided feedback and also will submit new designs. Thank you
Let me know these
Thanks, the new changes are very subtle though and the similarity to Audible is unfortunately still way too strong to consider that entry though I am afraid.
#40 is a coloured variant of #20, right?
@CryptoCannabis, thanks a lot. I very much appreciate the fact that you chose a very different approach from most of the icons here, though just to double check, that icon is fully vectorised, right?
My only concern would be that it might be a bit too rich for an icon. Not saying it should all be a white outline, but especially when downsizing a lot might get lost. Could you provide a smaller version of it and maybe one or two alternatives?
@kraman.157, thanks for #41 and #42. I am a bit confused about #42 as I am not sure what it should depict. As for #41, it's actually not bad but we are a bit back to the original problem where the icon is rather a reference to something that generates output (e.g. a chat application) than a news reader.
@Altruist Design, thanks, not bad either. This entry (and its variations) is slowly making its way up to the Top X
#46: @galalogo, thank you, though I'd probably rather revisit the earlier concepts. As I mentioned in #37 in the upright position, it rather looks like a Wifi symbol at that is exactly the case here too. As for the earlier concepts, I'd believe the very first ones (#13 and #16) had the most potential.
#13 was simply a bit too generic and aforementioned Wifi-ish and simply was what I ruled out in my initial posting (not just the RSS symbol).
#16 on the other hand seemed a bit visually unbalanced.
#47: @Altruist Design, thanks though here my first thought is galaxy (and I am not planning to compete with Samsung ). On a second thought #43 and #44 do rather leave a bit the impression of a stylised eye. IMHO #25 and #26 have the most potential so far. #25 simply is too much Transformer/WonderWoman for the time being and also somewhat Wifi-ish. As for #26, I realise #43 and #44 are based on it but maybe the solid orange colour or the fact that the symbol is clearly defined by the black borders change the impression a bit. Maybe tweaking that a bit or making it less eye-ish, changing the orientation or slightly retouching how the lines flow. I am sorry that I can't be more concrete.
