Thanks YoungEmpire.

Yes, the point of domaining, take an investment and turn a profit.

Unlike typos, this has no TM issues, and never will. No chance of someone UDRP'ing your investment.

I routinely buy names and optimize them to the best of their potential. I see it as a challenge. It's what I'm good at. Love buying names and optimizing through parking. I've even thought of offering my optimizing services.

I recently bought a name from this forum with 50% CTR and turned it into nearly 100%. As you can see, I've already received MORE clicks with LESS traffic.

As the previous owner of toolbar stated, it received good traffic but no clicks. Nearly 0% CTR. I turned that into nearly 5%.

I cannot speak for the respective sites that you've mentioned OwnDomain, but only offer my opinion.

At the bottom of Compete, it states: Compete triangulates multiple data sources, including ISP, Panel & Toolbar to estimate U.S. traffic.

Maybe it's only calculating US traffic.

If you take a look at the sources you'll see that only 1/5 of the traffic comes from the US.

As for Alexa, again, only my opinion, but I've other domains that get tons more traffic than Alexa shows. Sometimes my "traffic rank" will update every few days, and other times I've seen a site stick around 20,000,000 for a month before it updates to something under 1,000,000.

If you check Archive.org you'll see the domain is archived from 2003, and was previously maintained by Microsoft.

I think you misunderstood impulseleads inquiry. Why is the traffic so happy? What is the source/ Is it type-in, typo? Was the name previously a website? Backlinks? Where is causing the traffic for a .cc domain name?

Sorry about not clarifying it better. I was reserving the keyword information for the buyer, which tells the rest of this domain names story.

Although some information on it isn't so promising, it is OLD INFORMATION.

It seems the traffic is coming from IE6.

In 2003 there was a BHO (Browser Helper Object) used in Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6 Toolbar that helped display targeted ads and sent "bad" searches to ToolBar.cc, which was maintained by Microsoft. If you check the WayBack, you'll find the Microsoft page.

In 2004, when Microsoft released Service Pack 2 for XP, it dumped the function, along with the domain name.

So to the best of my knowledge, I'd say the traffic is coming from non updated versions of IE6. As you can see here and here, IE6 is still widely used.

I'm sure if the former owner did their homework, and used relative keywords to my findings instead of assuming the domain name itself was a good keyword, he/she would have known the domain names full potential.

I hope this helps clarify your question. Although some may look at it negatively, I can assure you my parking account doesn't.

On another note, lets not forget the genericness (it's a word, really) of this domain name. It could hold even more potential as a developed website.

Thanks for all of your inquiries. I appreciate everyone's time and participation.

These stats are not for a complete three months. These stats are from October 19, 2008, ONLY 62 Days.

$298/62 Days = $4.80 a day
$4.80/day x 30 = $144/mo.
$144 x 12 = $1.730/yr.
