$60 Vector Logo Contest for Domain Service Provider

Not open for further replies.
Prize - $60 paid via Paypal ($60 USA)

Deadline - March 7 but the earlier the better. If someone meets the client requirements early in the process, I may announce a winner before March 7. Likewise, if nothing suitable has been submitted by March 7, I may extend it a few days. I will do my best to keep everyone aware of the decision status at all times.

Requirements

Format - Logo must be 100% vector format scalable design that will be compatible with Adobe Illustrator. No exceptions.

Company Name - NameClerk.com

Size - Must fit within a 225 pixel width and 85 pixel height. (small, I know)

Primary Colors - Cobalt Blue & White. An additional accent color is ok but I'd like to keep the number of colors to a minimum for the sake of versatility. The background of the website will be black so please post your entries with a black background.

Usage - The logo must be versatile enough to be used on the web and stationary. The logo must translate well into black and white. If it doesn't, we'll need a modified, second design that does.

Theme - NameClerk.com is a domain name service provider. I find and provide available domain lists to domain name investors. The general theme should be domain investing. I'm open to any concept so I will not be providing concept guidelines other than the following:

I realize the theme might be hard to represent graphically. The design can be conceptual or slightly abstract as long as it's clean and professional looking. I'm looking for something simple, not overly complex. I will do my best to provide feedback on all entries and or revisions within a reasonable amount of time.

Although it's not a requirement, it would be nice if the graphic/symbol portion of the logo can stand up on it's own (without the text). This way, it could be used as a branding element throughout the website. (Example: the bullet for lists or category labels)

No Clipart will be accepted. Original artwork only please! Please watermark your designs for your own protection.

Rights - Upon completion of the transaction, NameClerk.com will own exclusive rights to the logo. I have no problem if the author wants to display it in their portfolio or on their website, we just don't want the same design sold to someone else.

If I've forgotten something, PM me and I'll update the requirements. If you have any questions please PM me as well.

Thank you.

-Bill E.

Mukesh,

Thanks for starting things off. Solid entry. My thoughts:

Likes - I like the color combination. It provides impact and the colors compliment each other well.

Dislikes - I'm not sold on the symbol (NC) with arrow and crescent. It's obvious enough but I don't think it would stand up on it's own if you took away 'NameClerk' right next to it.

Other - The fonts work well. They're a bit on the safe side, lacking originality, but, I'd rather have that than some crazy font that's hard to read.

Suggestions - Although it's not a requirement, it would be nice if the graphic/symbol portion of the logo can stand up on it's own (without the text). This way, it could be used as a branding element throughout the website. (Example: the bullet for lists or category labels)

Nazri,

Thank you for the entry. Very interesting design. It's very eye catching but much to abstract for my taste.

Likes - Another fine choice in color. I think your use of the inner shadow on the text is tastefully done. I think the font works pretty well too.

Dislikes - The graphical element is much to abstract for the theme of my site. My service might be Internet based but there's nothing high tech about it. Your graphic is impressive but gives me the impression of a hosting service or gaming site. I'm looking for something simple, yet bold.

Borzoid,

Thank you for your entry. I like the quill pen design, I'm just not sure I understand the concept behind it but it does look good.

Likes - The "Cobalt" Blue used in the pen really pops and the double circle at the top could be used for branding in bullet points, etc as I mentioned earlier.

Dislikes - Although I like the graphic, I'm not sure if the concept can be applied to what I do. The pen would apply well to a writer/publisher but I find domains for investors. I'm a searcher, scavenger, finder....

Suggestions - Take note of the size requirements. I need something roughly 225x85 and your coming in at 150x90. Perhaps moving the graphic to the left of the text will satisfy the size requirement.

Feedback for the most recent submissions

TeviH - I prefer the technique you used in the 3rd and 4th versions. I think they look much better. However, I'm hoping that someone comes up with a symbol incorporated into the logo that I can use as a branding identity. I won't be able to accomplish that with a play off the letters "N" and "C"

umxca - This is probably my favorite so far. The magnifying glass fits my theme but I do have a few concerns.

1. The handle doesn't extend up far enough to make it on obvious "L"
2. Your magnifying glass is over empty space so it doesn't really offer any clues as to what I find.
3. The magnifying glass representing search is very cliche on the web. You see it over and over.

AdrianMatte - The gradient fill looks good but doesn't fit the mood I'm looking for. It's too "Tech" and lacks a symbol. I'm looking for a more "business casual" look.

4 days left. If I had to pick a winner at this point, it would be between Borzoid and umxca.

Suggestion: It's still early but nobody has played off the word "clerk" yet.

Hey Bill,

I used the official cobalt blue and the yellow from your avatar. Hope you like it.

Hayes (Rob) - I like it. You might actually change my mind about a text only logo. It's simple and bold. The colors work well and I really like the double outline. The additional "nc" graphic would serve well for bullets, avatars and such. Even though your entry is "text only", it contains a strong graphic element. Great job.

thx for your thorough FB I made some adjustments. In regards to the use of the magnifying glass on nthe web i tend to agree. But on the other hand an audience searching for something is definitely made aware quickly what the site provides. thx

Thank you for the detailed feedback. It really helps nail things down.

My idea for the quill pen was of a clerk using a quill to write down names. I did toy with the idea of using a script or calligraphic font for this. Let me know if you would like to see that.

Here are the size/layout changes.
