What does "quality" domain actually mean?

I have read through the topics already existing and they state sale prices and that they are only for quality...but what criteria should be looked for?

Obviously candy.com or slots.com are self explanatory, but how do you choose them, those that may be registered for registration fee and sold for many times more?

I have a couple of domains I am looking at...just want to know if I am on the right track with them as I don't fully know what might or might not be brandable myself :)

Well Sparhawke,

When it comes to brandable 5L domain names, look for something that can't be mistaken. I would consider quality 5L domains to be names that cannot be misspelled at all. Names like gweqz, ptrew, or azngr are not quality names in my opinion. Names that I considering of having some quality are names that I currently own like, boyno, bagso, quavo, iwack, and exark.

If you say any of those names over the phone to someone, they will be able to spell it correctly the first time. Rather then spending $50 to $100 on 5 mediocre unpronounceable names. Spend your money on 1 or 2 quality pronounceable names.

Thanks a lot for your answer Fantasy, it helps a huge amount actually and yes, the ones I were looking at were reasonably pronounceable :)

Any more tips? :D

Another question, with over 11,000,000 domains with 5 letters do you use any tools to generate the combinations or just randomly think them up and check availability one at a time? :)

I usually find them on the aftermarket. I have hand registered names that have sold for $300-$500, but that doesn't happen very often. Most names that I am going to keep, I have bought on some of the various domain auction sites.

Most domain generator sites won't find much.

There are not so many 5L that are truly brandable and pass the radio test. Those are the ones to look for. I don't think you'll still find a lot unregistered. I would say it boils down to brandability and whether the name flows well.
I like certain combos like CVVCV or CVCVV.
