domain $500 offer on French mortgage .com domain - nom de domaine francais pour hypotheque

So a while back there was a discussion about a few French domain names we hold in our portfolio, notably the term "mortgage broker" ; courtier hypothecaire in French; we had a few taster offers (low $xx and xxx) ... and just last week, a $500 offer on SEDO.

Naturally, this was a lowball offer (this is for the .com name and other g and ccTLD variants with and without the hyphen are registered) so we didn't accept it - though we submitted a pretty reasonably $xxxx counteroffer.

Again, this is a classic example of holding a name for value - letting the French equivalent of MortgageBroker.com go for $500 would be a desperate act... we have a few names available in the "desperation" category, but courtierhypothecaire certainly isn't one of them.

Any thoughts on end-user or reseller value for such a name in the primary French-speaking (France, Canada, Belgium, etc.) markets?

France (+ french speaking countries/regions) is large economy and I like french domains. They get high bids on auctions too ) Wanted to buy terre.org, e.g., but there was smb wanting it even more ))

So, yes, the name is probably xxxx. It is going to have some search traffic and it is brandable.

well being a .com definitely hurts it, .fr would be much better, but still I would say that taking into account the size of French property market this name is worth more than $500

Thanks for the feedback - merci bien! We've had 5 further direct inquiries (SEDO) and 2 via email including one we accidentally deleted (from the email server as well, merde) but the best offer was $1100 and it won't be going for that.

It's somewhat of a cyclical industry subject to seasonality (for example, we're entering the prime period in Canada / Quebec with people getting rental renewal notices and considering making the mortgage investment to ownership, etc....)

Will have to look at better monetizing it while awaiting a suitable buyer.

We sold a two word (generic, engineering) French .com to the .fr holder for mid $xxxx last year....

.com is still king even with the relevance of ccTLDs for certain names...

Standing firm on this one, it's sustainable - mortgages = a fact of life... les hypothèques, ca fait partie de la vie!
