I just paid $3.25 the other day... those prices would make me sick. D-:

I thought it was usually the opposite for places on the gulf coast.

Finally, our AG has activated it to where these jerks can be prosecuted for this type of thing. The gas station that was over $5.23 is now back down to $4.49. There have been numerous stations around here closing saying that they don't have gas to sell, but you can rest assured they'll be open first thing when those prices jet up.

I wish they'd bar the vermin scum from doing business, anyone with that lack of a conscience should be tarred and feathered like they used to do in the old days. With what is about to happen down there in TX, I am ashamed to even have these people in my state.

www.gasbuddy.com to check gas prices.. $5 a gallon is crazy.. especially when there's no real shortage. Prices are artificially inflated.

100% so Dave, I just want other folks to be aware of this kind of crap, in case some try to pull it where they are. Basically it comes down to a few stations decided to jack up the prices and it created an artificial panic here in the midlands of South Carolina, as far as I am aware. Prices this morning are still around $4.00/gallon in most areas - up $0.50 or more from yesterday.

Gas prices here have been that way though. For many years now we've always been one of the cheaper spots in the nation. Like everyone else, we shot down after oil dropped off so hard and far. However, Labor Day rolls around and prices shoot up from the $3.20s to $3.49 all over the state. Now we always have different prices from location to location, but it was a uniform $3.49 with the only exception being around the coast where it was in the $3.50s. It stayed there since while other places were reporting prices back down into the $3.20s. We kept being told is was Gustav.

There's significant price gouging here in SC - and this falls on the gas stations(the owners set the prices), not big oil. The problem here is that owners set the prices, regardless of the stuff being pumped.

They started going up here in Houston until a state of emergency was called. They then dropped off a bit and are now at a steady $3.80 as of 2 hours ago.

I remember the gougers every time and I never return. I'm so stubborn that I don't even go to the gougers from 9/11.

Gas (wholesale) topped off at $4.85 today - funny how the Yahoo/AP articles say that cost won't be passed along to the consumer.

In reality, though, the articles are right. It's not the oil companies. Prices in SC were going up late yesterday afternoon and evening, way ahead of the regional spike. I planned a trip months ago for the girl's birthday this weekend. Ironically, since I am going out of state, I'll actually probably save money on gas in the long run.

I just don't understand the legal grounds for this. Prices spiked with Katrina around here, but not near this much this fast. I mean you're talking $1.50-$2.00 in a day in many locations. Insane.

And I'm with you Fix, I'm doing the exact same thing.

Price gouging scumbags :|

I remember after Hurricane Andrew - Some people were gouging in Florida for Ice and Water of all things ... Some of my friends loaded their freezer Trucks up with Ice here in NC , Drove them to Florida and parked right in those scumbags Parking Lots - They Gave tons of ice away for free - And dared the Gouging losers to say anything ;)

And Yes - I've been looking at Scooters myself for local trips ... If the Electric ones were more dependable - I'd look at them.

Yeah I live in SC too and thursday night when I went to get gas everyone was panicking which led to many stations running out. Friday it jumped to $5 dollars and I noticed that some of the stations had bags to cover the pumps. A friend's father in law owns a gas station and he said that in a normal night he would make ~300 from gas. Thursday night he said he made around $3500. The bad thing was he also told me that some of the owners his father in law knows put bags on the pumps before they ran out so they wouldn't run out ahead of the price increase. It looks like some people expected it and wanted to charge out the but for it no matter what.
