The question is if you didn't raise the issue would most even get to know about it.

The website still advertising $11K of discount is false and misleading. Not sure on the legality of it.

Were they just hoping that most people wouldn't transfer in more than 300. How do we know if they actually let anyone transfer in 1990 domains?

I won't be using them if this is how they do business.
Yeah, I definitely felt the same way.
It wasnโ€™t just about the numbers โ€” it was the way it was communicated that really rubbed me the wrong way.
When Brady said "it was a steal for you," it came across like we should just be happy with what we got and not expect any fairness or transparency.
Itโ€™s not even about the deal itself anymore โ€” itโ€™s about the attitude and the way the situation was handled.
Youโ€™re absolutely not alone in feeling that way.

I think the problem with UD starts from their super average domain. They also want to look bigger than what they actually are using insurance sales techniques. Glad I didn't spend a penny, but I guess many newbies did spend a lot of money as usual.

Please consider the average buyer when we sell a domain.
They are not going to have a clue about all this web 3/wallet address stuff.

If we sell a domain though Afternic as in my example they are not going to be asking customer for a wallet address.

Transferring a domain is probably already hard enough for them and then you are adding unnecessary complexity for them.

It should be made as simple as every other regular registra otherwise you risk losing us sales.

I could transfer a lot of domains to you but this one aspect puts me off completely.
thanks for the feedback - I just shipped an update to push functionality that makes this process easier. we still use wallet addresses, but we explain where to find it and the experience is the same as looking up your username and pasting it in. let me know what you think. in the future we will update this to email/username

go to your domains dashboard you will see push in the sidebar.

marketplace sales have a 3% fee. users can pay in card, crypto, coinbase pay, paypal, etc. cashout is free via ACH. you need to connect your bank in settings

Brady here, thanks for your feedback all -

yes, I should have better notified users that we were reducing the promo cap from $11k to $2k. I was also slow to update the terms. my apologies. I know that makes it harder to do long term portfolio planning. understand that we are being extremely generous with these promos and that forces us to update them on the fly to make the economics work. $2k is still an enormous amount of discounts per user. we will do better to communicate with you all about these changes going forward.

Just a heads up to customers regarding the Unstoppable Domains $5.52 transfer offer:
The conditions originally advertised were:

However, this offer is no longer valid.
The limit was drastically changed without notice.
According to the promoter, Brady, they changed the deal to about 300 domains. He confirmed privately to a partner that they had already received more than double the new cap.
Hereโ€™s the actual conversation:

With that said, I want to be clear that we are grateful to Unstoppable Domains for the opportunity.
Given the size of our partnershipโ€™s portfolio, we had originally planned to move about 50% of our domains over to Unstoppable.
But due to the sudden and unexpected change โ€” and the fact thereโ€™s still been no public update โ€” weโ€™re now questioning the long-term commitment to customers' best interests.
If we had known the terms would change, we would have just continued transferring our domains to Spaceship, where transfers are $7.99 with no strings attached, and backed by Namecheap, one of the top 3 domain companies in the world.
That said, weโ€™ll keep the domains we've already transferred at Unstoppable for now โ€”
we want to learn their system and maybe even test out their marketplace for future sales partnerships.
No bad feelings at all โ€” we appreciate everything Unstoppable has offered, and if asked, we'd be happy to help provide honest feedback.
Respectfully. ''Company Domain Names'' group '' Joe Drake, all info is 100% true''
I'll make this right for your trouble. dm me

May I ask what the benefit is of transferring to UD?

You pay $5.52 + $11.05 for 2 years, essentially. That's before any fees if any. That comes out to $8.28 per year

The spscomtr promo youre talking about grants $8.17 per year. So im not understanding

I suppose this promo is good if you have .com that youre planning on renewing this year and dropping next year?

This arrangement appears to be a win-win for Unstoppable Domains. From what I gathered in my conversation with Brady, the primary motivation behind this deal is to retain users whose domains are nearing expiration or are already past due. By offering this promotion, they're effectively locking users in for another year. Their target audience isn't those with several months remaining on their registrationsโ€”since those users can easily opt to leave after a yearโ€”but rather individuals who may be financially constrained and thus more likely to let valuable domains expire in the future.

From the buyer's perspective, it's a welcome relief in terms of cash flow. It offers a temporary, low-cost solution during a financially challenging period. That said, the abrupt rollout of this initiative was unexpected. Brady himself admitted the approach wasn't ideal, which I respect him for acknowledging.

In hindsight, the move may have been for the best. For example, Spaceship charges only $1.50 more for transfers and comes with fewer strings attached. So, in summary: while I did save money, it felt like a mixed blessing. The system performance left much to be desiredโ€”it took me two full days to update 600 nameservers, and the user interface is difficult to navigate. Overall, I would rate the experience a Dโ€“.

$2k is still an enormous amount of discounts per user

I have used up my promo discount of 2K as per your definition of discount.

Firstly, thanks for the discounts.

But when you calculate discount, you calculate it based on your transfer price of 11$. So, according to you, you are giving apx 5.5$ discount. So to use up 2K, I was able to transfer about 363 domains.

But the next best transfer rate available today is 7.75$, and the difference between your price of 5.53$ and 7.75$ is 2.22$.

For a domainer like me, I ended up saving 363 * 2.22$ = 805$ and not 2K $ as per your definition. Also, I have already transferred out a couple of domains and paid about 5.5$ each for transferring them out before 1 year of transfer date.

So, my saving are already less than 800$..But again thanks for helping me save that too. I appreciate that (y), I really do.

But you should also look from a domainers perspective, and I really hope you consider increasing your limit from 2K.:xf.smile:

You're only assessing .com. In certain supported gTLDs, UD is the lowest price when this transfer discount is taken into account. In those cases, you would receive the full $5.53 discount (and $2k in account savings)

you can transfer in for $5.52 and transfer out after 1 year has passed with no penalty. you're not locked in for 2 years or under any obligation to renew. the only time you'd need to renew is if your domain goes into redemption after our 40 day grace period. then, you'd need to restore the domain to transfer out or otherwise manage your domain

UD has a lot of cool features - you can see them explained on our homepage:

3% commissions on sales
BIN/make offer/self-brokerage landers
at-cost regs/renewals/transfers
refer a friend program for 50 free transfers
modern bulk management
send & receive crypto with your domains
listings are automatically added to web3 marketplaces in addition to our own

thanks for the feedback. I can honestly say that internally we haven't discussed targeting people with expiring domains. it's simply too narrow a segment, even though it's more advantageous for us given the terms. our intention was simply subsidize transfers in without being abused, then make our registrar and marketplace much better over the course of a year so that you willingly stay instead of transferring out

as for your specific UX complaints, we've since updated our management so you can update up to 500 nameservers at a time. so 600 would now take 2 batches but still would be fairly easy. can you explain what else about our interface made it hard to navigate?

hey I'm glad you took advantage and appreciate your gratitude - as for the $2k figure, that is the total discount from our cost. we won't quote other registrar's prices when defining our promo terms as you do with your $805 figure, because it would be variable. if your comp was vs namecheap with $17 renewals then you'd be saving over $4100 with us with your 363 domain/$2k discounts limit!
