Hi there. I just want to put something to the forum and see what people think. The buzz word alot of domainers are getting excited about (apart from 3d)is 'holo', eg: holographic or hologram. And quite right too. Once holographic tech appears on the marketplace and integrates into the home (there's plenty of evidence supporting this emerging technology), 'Holo' is going to be the first port of call in accurately describing holographic things, eg: hologames, holofilms, holotvs, etc. But my personal belief is that 'Holo' works solely as a pre-fix and does not lend itself as a suffix ie: gameholos, filmholos etc. Also it doesn't fit into the category of technical acronyms understood the world over; PC, TV, 3D, HD, AR..
But two letters I feel everyone has overlooked is HG. If you type "HG" and "holographic" into Google there's a few incidences of companies and products using HG to describe holographic product or the company itself, ie,HGtech.com, HGimage.com. And this is long before holographic technology has even begun its infiltration into the mainstream. 3 years from now I think it will be a different picture. Sony are hard at work developing holographic tech and have hinted at developing it for a future games console. In Great Britain we have SKY HD as our primary satellite TV provider. When holographic tech becomes the norm what are they going to be calling their products? Personally I reckon something along the lines of SkyHG and PlaystationHG. If so, HG is quickly going to become THE buzz word. And my point is, HG domains are readily available in their thousands. Important 3d domains are long gone, the same with 'Holo'. Yet 'HG', no ones really looked or considered. Thats either because 'HG' doesn't stand a chance, or they think 'Holo' is going to be the one and only brand name. I've asked many a non domainer friend what the shortest acronym for Holographic is, and every time, they respond 'HG'. Ok, it might not be a true acronym, but then again, nor is TV. It might be three or four years off but if the tech's on the way, I reckon Holo and HG are going to be the sole descriptive terms for it. And my point again is the Holo domains have been snapped up, HG domains are bountiful, in every extension.
