I purchased a full database. The database is informational & covers a lot of general topics. From cars to home & garden.. Etc..

The problem is that I can't import the database into phpmyadmin.

The .sql file is 1.2GB in size after uncompressing the file.

When I try to open it or import it into phpmyadmin, it just freezes up my computer. I've let it run for days & my computer just gets really slow & freezes for days. Looking at the database, it's still empty.

I'm willing to share this database for free - if someone has suggestions on how to do this. I know it can be done via phpmyadmin but I am doing something wrong.

The best way would be to upload the compressed data to your server and import it via the shell.

This would be the alternate way. This is what I've done in the past, and it works well. But when one doesn't know the command line, or just wants an interface, Big Dump is the way to go.

1 problem with using the command line for restoring databases is that it is much more pedantic with what commands work and which will not. Files that will quite happily succeed in phpmyadmin can quite as easily fail on the command line.

great tool, though I prefer compressing the files, then ftp-ing or scp-ing to server, then ssh to server, extract the file, mysql -u username -p dbname < dumpfile.sql
