I'm sure someone can provide a longer example but here's my example.

This PR4 dropped on Feb.14th. Its an expired science conference so its not keyword strong or high traffic. It has under 100 backlinks.

I kept watching it (it kept getting picked up) and I finally grabbed it last night.

I have another name PR4 that I'm watching that expired on Feb.15th that is still doing the domain taster dance.

Any more examples?

It is good that you meantioned this. I was going to track a group of 1500 dropped .net domains for 20 days to see when most of the drops are no longer being picked up by domain tasters and the like. I was going to record just the basics, pagerank, free, took, redemption, pendingdelete over the 20 days. It is my belief is that after X amount of days that domain tasters say okay on to the next batch and then I could pick up the scraps for myself. I have the script ready and plan on starting with the 21st drop list. :D

My only problem is what time of the day to check them each day? I heard that 10am (my time) is usually when the drops happen, but then again I could be wrong.

:)~

I hope to post the results once I am finished with this small test experiment.

Hi thebutler, I'd like to do this too. Are you using anything special to monitor the domain?

Do you need to be up to the minute trying to drop catch it? or once is tasted and left everything is different and almost no one is looking for it?

Thank you very much!

I ended up finally getting the other one on March 16th (31 days of tasting).

Regarding the technique unfortunately (for me) I don't have any fancy scripts. I check the daily dropping lists, spot some names that i might be able to use, check to make sure PR is valid, check to see if they have good backlinks (than I guess if those backlinks will stay up longterm).

Than I check once or twice a day if the name is available. Plenty of names are getting picked up by companies running scripts but thats the way it goes. With these names after they have run through 5 or 6 tasters I think they were available for a few hours. I reg'd one during the day and one at night.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info!

So what happens here is that the domains don't get on any of the lists again but tasters move them around till they are free, nobody knows it and you can grab them?

About the daily dropping lists, do you know where they come from? What is the source of these lists? is it available?

bliss, one of the domains I was checking myself today by hand expired almost exactly at 18:21:17 UTC, so the time frame 18-19 could be right. However, I don't know if there is a relation between the drops from a pendingDelete status and the drops from the tasters. Is there any? Maybe the domains get available the minute after the taster decides to drop it and not at any particular time frame.

Let us know what you find out! :)

Yep, try, but after doing some major research over what I want to do it cause take up to 3 months and 15 days to track the progression of ones days drops. About the drops I read it is 11am~2pm pacific time that they drop from the central registar. With the big boy sharks lurking during that time it is just a waiting game until they throw away the scraps.

I just read about 11am~2pm too, that would be 6pm~9pm UTC.

Does the dropping from tasters follow this same pattern too then?
