Very old news. No idea where you got the idea that domain registrations will run out as ip's and domains are not directly related. You can host as many domains as you want on an IP.

IPv6 has been in development for years and is basically ready to be used. Main thing holding it up is ISP's etc unwilling to make the jump. If organisation continue to stall then there will be a lot of problems when they finally try to release it as it will be rushed.

I actually remember this making news back in about 1997 saying they would be gone by about 2002. My buddy who studied the infrastructure of the Net for a long time did not believe it. So I listened to him. Ten years later.....it never happened.

At the time, we were both thinking about reserving a couple blocks of IP's just in case, and then if nothing happened then at least we would have enough IP's of our own to be able to use one IP per domain for ultimate SEO potential, or if we wished, sell them at a profit if we needed cash, if they did run out . It seemed like a win-win idea......but IP's are expensive to own.....so we only purchased about 1000 if I remember correctly. We still have them.
