I noticed that 1911.com is dropping soon. Do you think these types of calendar years have value? It seems to get a bit of traffic, but how could you monetize it effectively?

Any NNNN.com is worth money. Type in traffic only makes it stronger.
It should not be purchased with intensions of parking.

Yep, it's worth money. Would be picked up by the dropcatchers though

It will probally go for about $240-$400 ish

Yes, NNNN's could be birthdays, anniversaries, etc.. Aside from that, could mean more than just a calendar year - I've come accross NNNN sites that represented street addresses, the last 4 digits of a phone #, etc..

Yeah I think they do.

A historical one like 1776.com, 1941.com or 1984.com would be nice to have.

I never even thought of street addresses. I'll put in a bid on it.

This estimate seems kind of low for this domain IMHO.

Wow - not bad. I wonder how many months ago that was. I think 1911 is a bit better name as it's a year that occurered more recently. Nevertheless you may be right - I'll be curious to see what it goes for.

I have 2527.com I paid $404.21 for it. Yes I paid too much because I used proxy bidding on TDNAM. Some months ago I stopped bidding on 1741.com at ~$150 and it was sold for $154 at Tucows.

A search for 2527 shows:

2527 Restaurant http://www.pluggedincleveland.com/restaurants/2157+2527.html

2527 RFC http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2527.txt

2527.com might be worth a lot 520 years from now. If the internet still exists. If humanity still exists... Or perhaps with inflation, $10 million at that time will get you a cheeseburger and fries. If cheeseburgers and fries still exist.

In any case, I'll budget $500 for 1911.com and see how it goes.

1911.com hmmm.... if I had $2k free I would snap it up. Due to Sept 11 and the value of the association, I would imagine the owner will get nice traffic for not only their lifetime but their kid's lifetime as well.

1911.com may have a higher value because in Europe it could also be read as 19th November, although not sure of any specific significance of that date.

Where will this one drop? I'd like to watch it.

A year NNNN.com would be worth it for $500. It will only increase in value.

Could you tell me more about this? You can backorder or purchase domains at Tucows? I have a domain that I am going to try and catch that expired (yes, it was mine) and right now Tucows is listed as the registrar.

Thanks

It was caught by Enom's Club Drop. There are in 63 bidders in this private auction that closes Friday at 12:15 PM (PST).

Currently, two bidders are tied with a top bid of $500 each. It should close for much higher.

why do you think it's worth much more?

is it much different than any other NNNN.com ?

Because NNNN.com names usually are not pre-bid up to $500. Generally in backorder auctions, there is a correlation between high starting bid amounts and high ending prices.
