1024x768 is as high as my screen goes... how can I make it bigger?

I have this laptop and the screen resolution only goes up to 1024x768. I went into the display tab and saw the following:

1. (Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go (Toshiba)
2. Default Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 420 Go (Toshiba)

#1 is the default and thats the one that doesn't go higher than 1024x768. If I select #2, the bar goes all the way up to 2048x1536, but whichever option I select and hit Apply, it doesn't change anything.

It's really aggravating to work at 1024x768 when Im so used to my 1600x1200 monitor at home. Is there any way I can fix this?

Since its a laptop, most likely the LTD display is limited to 1024x768 and the vid card is more powerfull than that. You canot go above the max of the LCD, even if the video card says you can. The way I get a better res is by using a secondary moniter for viewing at home, and only use the LCD when i am away.

When I had a 17" monitor (not laptop) anything above 1024*768 would make the monitor lag so I had to reboot in safe mode to change it back. It kind of scared me for a second :o
