People seem to be very pessimistic about hand reg'ed domains. And maybe I"m just such a newbie that I don't get it, but to me..... There are new industries born all the time, which means there going to be hand reg opportunities.
Take 3D printing or sensors for example.
Sensors are a great one because they're new and their uses are everywhere. No, you probably won't be hand regging sensors.com , but maybe new advancements allow you to buy MedicalSensors.com or CarSensors.com, heck in a year or so they'll probably find uses for sensors in other consumer friendly industries and you can own Fishingsensors.com ... something like that.
Now maybe all the domains I just mentioned are already taken, I didn't look, but my point is, they were hand regged at some point by someone who knew.
Instead of knocking hand regging - maybe we should be figuring out how to get a head of the curve so we can own a hand full domains when new technologies start emerging (for example).
