A band owns TeaParty.com and apparently can't decide if they should Sell It for a Million Dollars or hold on to it to draw attention to the band.

In case the band is wondering... What Would a Domainer Do? And, How Much the name might actually be worth. Let's give them a Poll and Discussion.

Should they sell?
Please say why.

If not, Why?

And, if you like, include what you think the name is worth.

Sell: One million per band member.
Reason: Because they can pay and really this is nothing (amount).

Personal politics aside...

If I were the band's manager I would have them in the studio Right Now recording covers of God Bless America, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and so forth.

I'd pay for, or have the band write, a few (satirical) originals with titles like Dollar Bill Toilet Paper, Mr. Dem, Your Hem is Showing, Suck My Drone! etc.

Then release an 'album', on the TeaParty.com label, and make millions from sales of CD's and downloads (from the site -where Repub's will now want to advertise).

Then hit the road and make millions more from bookings from candidate fund raisers to the Repub convention.

Then, after the election, sit back and rake in millions from royalties for years to come.

Did I mention the go down in history as the most famous political band EVER part!?

If they went the "political spoof" route, they'd probably make a bigger splash and more revenue with an added "catch", etc.

Far Right songs like "I Broke the Governmet (But I didn't help fix anything.)", etc.

After getting so much attention over the past few months, the band has decided to put the domain on auction at Sedo.com.

I have to laugh at the whole premise of this thread. Fact is, most artists (actors, singers, bands, models, etc.) are wannabes. And trust me, I speak from experience. I was an actor for MANY years. The chance of anyone making a living in that industry is slim to none. If I was this band, I wouldn't even have to think twice. TAKE THE MONEY & RUN :) It's only a name for crying out loud. Now, if someone wanted to buy Kiss.com for example, and Gene Simmons owned it, I would tell the prospective buyer to beat it. But, he's already filthy rich and can afford to turn down an offer of a million bucks. Some high school drop-out from Seattle with lollipop visions dancing in his head of becoming the next Kurt Cobain cannot.

I think you've got the wrong band. The Tea Party isn't some little band trying to scrape together a few bucks from making music. They've made a great living off their music for many years.

As much as I'd like to think I'm so hip & 'down with it', I cannot at the end of the day claim to be. However, I'm pretty well versed on a wide variety of subjects. I have never heard of this band. I'm sure the majority of other folks are in the same boat.

While I don't dispute for a second that they might've been playing the 'circuit' for a number of years & eking out a living, a million bucks is still a million bucks. For anyone - outside of a well known celebrity, businessman or professional - to turn down that kind of cash makes no sense at all to me :imho:

100% agree with this. Don't sell it and make $100.000.000

The majority of people have never heard of the Tea Party as an American political party either. Value shouldn't be placed on anything solely based on whether you have heard of them or not.

The question here isn't whether 1 million dollars would be nice, it's whether selling the name for that price is the bands best use of the name.

I have been in agreement that if I was them I'd sell the name (which it appears they are doing), just not for the same reasons as you.

this is most probably more than the band will ever see in one lot as musos and they would be nuts not to take the cash

Sedo broker Dave Evanson now brokering the name. It will be sold by Christmas at the latest. My guesstimate $1.5m - $2m

Have Democrats, Republicans, and Teapartiers fight for it at SEDO.

I actually find it surprising (in my Canadian ignorance) that no one has heard of the band. I own 3 of their albums (Tangents, Triptyck and Transmission). They were pretty popular when I was in highschool. They were not a fly by night band. They had a number of hits.

I'm sure they did quite well in their prime, they played lots of big venues and sold tons of albums. I wasn't the only one listening to their music -- was I?

Politics lives on .org. The official Tea Party site is on a .org and TeaParty.org is an unofficial site relating to the Tea Party.

TeaParty.com has NOT received a $1 million offer - that's what all these news stories would have you believe based on their titles 'n such but if you read them carefully, it was mainly speculation as to whether it was worth a million dollars or not.

I really don't think it is. The Tea Party is an extension of the Republican party, which will inevitably swallow it back up. It's worth its peak right now, which is not a million dollars. Maybe half that max. But honestly I don't think the Tea Party would want to be on a .com. They could have picked one for their official site and they didn't.
