One can see the reasons why one should not register from Yahoo if they are willing to search and read the old thread here at namepros.

Yahoo domain registration (which is actually a reseller of MelbourneIT) is good for casual people who want to develop a site or something ... but I don't think is good for domainers

they don't have a push option ... after the first year the cost goes to $9.99 ... and I think it was announced that in a couple of months renewal will got to something around $30 ... the control panel , though rather good , it does not have bulk changing options

the $1.99 offer is for new customers only and only 1 domain per customer ... if someone wants to buy a $1.99 domain and then transfer it before renewal to somewhere cheaper it might be a good idea

also I see they got a hosting plan with unlimited disk space and unlimited data trasfer (though it says unlimited better check all the fine print , there might be some conditions or something)

It's a good deal. Just transfer out before renewal is due and make sure they don't try to charge you after that.

How is $35 per year for domain registration a good deal?

Transfer out? Please explain how to do this with Yahoo Domains.

Let me break this down for you guys.

How much does Yahoo! Domains cost? It depends on the term you choose.

1-year term: $1.99 (special discount for new customers only)
2-year term: $11.94 ($1.99 for your first year, $9.95 for your second year)
3-year term: $21.89 ($1.99 for your first year, $9.95 for your next two years)
5-year term: $41.79 ($1.99 for your first year, $9.95 for your next four years)

After term expires: $34.95/year (only annual terms available after initial term expires)

You should READ this:
http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/pricing.php

Transfers? Heh.
Though Yahoo! doesn't yet offer registrar transfer, you can redelegate your domain to use with a Yahoo! plan.

You would do well to READ this too:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smallbusiness/domains/redelegation/redelegation-04.html

Reps appreciated if you found this post useful in saving you countless hours of frustration and time :)

Cheers!

I have transferred out 3 domains (not all from promotions) from Yahoo to GoDaddy

it is piece of cake

initiate the transfer at GoDaddy ... go to your Yahoo Control Panel and get the authcode ... follow the instructions from GoDaddy ... in less than 5 days the domain is in the GoDaddy account

(remember to cancel your Yahoo plan after you transfer out so that they don't keep charging you)

uswebdev - if you are a new customer you pay only for the first year ($1.99) and then transfer out (see paragraph above how)

Yahoo doesn't offer transfer IN service (to transfer your domains TO them) ... they don't have the right to keep you from transferring OUT (supposing you don't own them money)

A tip to keep in mind. Yahoo will advise you not to cancel your plan until after the transfer....yet if you do not "cancel plan" after the transfer they will charge your CC even if the domain is long gone. They will claim you are being billed for "services" and not a registration.

Transfer out asap. Just follow up ....

I don't know if you guys know about this, but I was originally only going to advertise it through my affiliate link. But microsoft offers free domain names for the first year, and $15 a year thereafter. Includes $100 in ad vouchers, and hosting.

It is free to signup for first year, can unlock domain and set DNS after 5 days, and you can easily transfer the domain to another registrar after 60 days,
